Senate approves $$$$592 Million Baghdad embassy
Does Halliburton build embassies? Just askin'

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate agreed on Wednesday to spend $592 million on a huge new embassy Baghdad, setting up a showdown with the House of Representatives, which rejected funding for the project because of the high cost.

Senators approved the embassy funding 54-45 as part of an $81 billion emergency spending bill to pay for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and help fund tsunami relief.

The House of Representatives removed the money for the Baghdad compound, which would be the largest U.S. embassy in the world, when it passed its version of the bill last month.

Nevertheless, supporters of the emergency spending bill said they expected the Senate to pass the measure on Thursday.

8. Kellogg Brown and Root
the Halliburton subsidiary will build the base(s). But remember they also built Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo under Clinton's watch. Bondsteel is the largest base in the world. Clinton was all for it- dined there with Chelsea to celebrate. It is not just a Neocon issue.

15. so pandering congress has agreed to bankrupt US
well we have bush and goons

.......... who doesn't care about how the people feel on issues. He's said it. If a poll shows 75% of the people don't want his SS plan, too f'ing bad. He pushes it anyway. If a poll shows his approval rating is down, he says he don't care.

............ having a moron who doesn't give a sh1t what the people who put him in office think is far worse. Bush is America's nightmare.

now we have our own party pandering because they will be called un-patriotic if they don't vote for this......I believe this was in the emergency bill.........if so.......it should have been voted on its own....if it was separate these idiots need a f'ing kick in the head...our country needs this money in all states.....

17. What makes you think Democrats are not implicit in imperialism?
I think it's time we learn most of Congress is certainly not independent of corporate interest. We need to support the real grassroots and expel the rest from our support.

It is, after all, the real center of control in Iraq. They need to furnish the King's palace.

25. This smells to high heaven
$592 million for a building is WAY too much. Even the world's tallest skyscrapers cost around a billion dollars. Is this Embassy going to have 100 stories??
