Man spits on Jane Fonda at book-signing....
Edited on Wed Apr-20-05 10:33 PM by MnFats
what do they want her to do, commit hari kari on the White House steps?

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=688111

A man spit tobacco juice into the face of actress Jane Fonda after waiting in line to have her sign her new book, police said.

The man ran off but was quickly caught by police Tuesday night and charged with disorderly conduct.

Fonda has been on tour and doing interviews to promote her just-published memoir, "My Life So Far." The thrice-married, two-time Academy Award winner covers a wide array of topics, including her 1972 visit to Hanoi to protest the Vietnam War, during which she was photographed on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun. She has apologized for that photo, but not for opposing the war.

Capt. Rich Lockhart of the Kansas City Police Department said that although Fonda did not want to press charges against Michael A. Smith, 54, of Kansas City, he was arrested on a municipal charge of disorderly conduct after off-duty officers caught him just outside Unity Temple, where Fonda was signing books.

2. I heard Jane Fonda on Diane Rehm's program last --
-- week.

She was lucid, wide-ranging, stunningly persuasive, politically surgical and genuinely enchanting.

In the 1970s she was one of the brave early voices against U.S. infamy in Southeast Asia. She certainly had more balls than Robert McNamara, although to his credit he later conceded many of the points Jane Fonda initially raised and has apologized.

If Richard Perle can advocate an assault on a sovereign nation then Jane Fonda can speak out against the deceit and lies that held the government's Vietnam rationalization together.

Late in the game, Jane Fonda appeared as a guest on Johnny Carson's show. He introduced her with this line:

"We were wrong. She was right."

7. Its one thing to speak out against an unjust war
But to go do a propaganda piece for the enemy when American GIs are dying in combat is unacceptable.

9. I would ask if a Secretary of Defense and a U.S. president --
-- both of them lying through their teeth while the same American and Vietnamese young people are dying is any more acceptable.

It seems to me that the tobacco tonight should have been spit on the graves of the Dean Rusks and Lyndon Johnsons and the military brass complicit in the overt and now-public record lying of troop casualities, etc.

On the scale of transgressions, Fonda's ranks well below that of our own government, besides which she apologized. Only McNamara has apologized for the horrendous moral transgression of U.S. involvement in SE Asia. He was its chief architect. But others were complicit. No apology from them has been forthcoming.

3. I have very little respect for Jane Fonda
But I do respect that she has apologized for what she did.

What this person did was way beyond the pale, and he should be prosectuted to the full extent of the law.

15. You know, we throw an awful big fit over this, but
we sure party like hell when a conservative--mind you, an intelligent, polite conservative like Kristol--gets pied.

And no, I'm not endorsing Kristol. He's an ass, but a polite ass.

18. Pie does not usually include body-fluids.
Spit is disgusting. Pie is a mess but at least it's not out of someone's mouth.

It's truly amazing how fucking stupid these people are.

17. "The man ran off "
I understand vets and families who have a problem with Fonda. These people have a right to speak their mind if she wants to make public appearances.
"I consider it a debt of honor"
But what a cowardly little worm, spitting on a woman in a temple and running away like a spineless freeper.

$5 says he has a record of spousal abuse.
