6. They Thought They Were Getting a Deal

because Verizon overloaded on debt buying cellular liscences. I know, I work for Verizon and I was pissed that the company would destroy its balance sheet that way. Now it's selling off assets. The Carlyle Group wants the cash flow.

However, local phone revenues are not growing. Hawaii has a pretty restrictive public service commission -- they're almost the last holdout blocking unlimited long-distance packages.

The Carlyle Group obviously saw value there. I hope they've been taken.

If you own the lines it is easier to do the dirty work. You own the lines
