5. says it's religious mccarthyism
demagoguery needs to stop. Lies, like all lies depend on the silence of others. Time for silence to end. Bush has to accept responsibility for smear campaign. Doesn't hurt just dems but the whole country because Constitution requires judges to follow the law.

8. Constitution protects all of us
It was not always an tolerant nation. THose who would try to drag us back to religious intolerance undermine the constitution.

Same senators they're slandering have supported hundreds of judges of faith. The equivalent of WMD, turns out not to be true but certainly convenient.

Bogus religious test must end. Nuclear option must not be used, destroys checks and balances and transfers power to WH.

11. If you remove checks and balances
Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 09:56 AM by Mandate My Ass
you have a giant leap toward unfettered power to one party. Should be above politics. Not only demeans senate but destroys comity which it depends and independent judiciary. Our congressional research service have said nuclear option violates Senate precedent. Republicans want to break rules for short-term political gain. Parliamentary equivalent where brute force prevails.

Supermajority - can only be amended by 2/3. They might feel justified acting against law. Iraqi law protects minority rights and president praised them.

Supposed to be distinct from house. Justification for billions of dollars every week in Iraq is that we are seeking to establish democracy. How ironic that we are undermining minority rights and checks and balances.

This week WH said Moscow (duma) way is very wrong. WE concentrate power in one place. Ironic when Pres and SOS talk about democratic socity to Pres Putin but Bush admin are determined to go nuclear to consolidate power in this country.

Pres said democracy lies in sharing power. He's acknowledged checks and balances on protection of minority and human rights. Nuclear option opposes that.

13. I would say to Delay
Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 09:54 AM by Mandate My Ass
stop slandering the judiciary. We don't have to agree with every one of their opinions but let us thrill to their independence.

When USSC decided 2000 election I believed they engaged in incredible overreaching act of judicial acitivism. i called for Americans to respect their opinion even though I disgreed. i tendered the argument Bush v. Gore, we wanted to show the country we have to get along. Dems didn't ask to impeach Scalia though we disagreed. We took to the airwaves and said we must uphold the decision of the court.

Upholding Constitution means upholding judiciary.

I've been in majority and minority several times. No party should control the fed judiciary. Has to be indepenedent. That was the genius of founders of this country. Totally independent of party. Has worked for 200 years. Will continue to protect us unless we remove independence. Will do what no army marching against us has even been able to do. The whole Constitution unravels. A great promise that brought my ancestors here from Italy and Ireland would be diminished.

great promise I hope to give to my children and grandchildren will be diminished.
