Last week, I was given a ticket for being a Democrat
Here’s the scenario:

My wife works at a community college. Last week I stopped by to take her out to lunch. I pulled up next to the building she works in and thought I could park briefly in the “student” spaces next to the building to go in a get her. I looked at some of the other vehicles parked in this same area and some didn’t have student parking stickers on their rear windows. Since I thought I would be only a few minutes, I would take a chance. So I parked and went into the building.

Well, it took a little longer than expected for my wife to get free, and when we exited the building, I noticed I had a parking ticket. Damn, I thought. Oh, well, I’ll pay the 2 bucks and never try that again. Then I noticed the other vehicles that also didn’t have student parking stickers displayed, were NOT ticketed.

What struck me as suspicious was that I have a “Kerry/Edwards” bumper sticker on my car, whereas the pickup parked next to be had a “Bush/Cheney” sticker. Neither one of us had a student parking sticker.

Should I have been ticketed? Of course, and I was…
Should the driver of the truck next to me been ticketed? Or course, but he was not

The whole affair amused me, but my wife is furious. She contacted campus security and has yet to have an explanation as to why this happened.

(oh, and incidentally, the campus police officers are known among the campus crowd as being extreme right-wing rednecks…)

4. Same thing happened to us on our way to Maine last summer.
We had spent the night at a hotel right off the highway we would be on the following morning. We had to park outside because there was no indoor parking. The next morning, we had JUST gotten on the highway and were hit by radar. How do I know he singled us out? We have a radar detector that detects radar up to 5 miles away. He DID NOT shoot his radar at anyone ahead of us because our detector did not go off. He must have seen our car in the parking lot with the Kerry/anti-Bush bumper stickers because he was perched, ready and waiting for us. This was in West Virginia, BTW. :(

6. red zones
My sympathies on getting the ticket, as well as having to live
out there. Although KC has (had?) Westport and the Plaza and all sorts of nice "things," a lot of the "people" are smug, well-paid rightists. As are way too many US citizens. Also too many tornados. Prairie breezes...

7. Did you have a camera? I would've taken a picture...
...and used it as evidence to contest the ticket in court. I also would have written a letter to the campus police chief complaining about the discrimination -- and the lack of professionalism of the police who were practicing that discrimination.

8. Good suggestions...
My wife said she'll take care of it. I think it's a honor thing with her (her place of employment), but I am thinking about composing a letter explaining the situation. I only hesitate since I didn't have a camera and it would be my word against the officer's.

10. did ya think
Did you ever stop for a minute to think that maybe the police gave you the ticket before the truck next to you pulled in?? Maybe by the time you saw the truck the police had came and went before the truck even arrived.

11. Whatever your politics, you don't park on campus without paying
Every college or university enforces parking. It's a big part of their revenue, because so many people park illegally and then complain when they get a ticket. It doesn't matter what the other guy got or didn't, you still parked illegally and will have to pay. It's like the guy who gets ticketed for speeding, when other people are driving faster. You are the one who got caught.

Parking on college campuses sucks, but that's the way life is.

15. Read the scenario...
Citations issued based on political beliefs is a big "no-no"

I got "caught" because of my political beliefs.

If you think that's ok, then welcome to BushWorld...:eyes:

14. Well, let me consider this...
Hmmm...

College professors offer ideas that you can take or leave. The choice is yours. College professors don't issue citations resulting in fines that you must pay...

I say a lack of diversity among campus cops is worse...

Anything else?
