Have we forgotten that John Kerry is Catholic
I have a question how can anyone that voted for John Kerry be anti religion or anti catholic? Is anyone else getting sick and tired of this Democrats are anti religious meme? I am sorry but this Justice Sunday stuff is bringing back lots of negative emotion and its just pure garbage to begin with. Oh well the righteous were wrong in Jesus time too eh?

2. Welcome to DU DanCa
It don't matter to me if a man or woman is religious or not. I look at what they stand for and what I believe in thats what it's all about. No more no less.

3. It's a wedge issue, the GOP are using it well
And sad to say, they have some unwitting helpers on the left, who with insults and cruel remarks, make the rest of us look like intolerant assholes.

Separation of church and state means just that. It doesn't mean line up the religious and shoot them. Our side is all about FREEDOM, and if you want to worship Cheetos, go ahead--just don't put Cheeto worship in the constitution!

I'm tired of being painted with an anti-religious brush simply because of my party affiliation, and I don't think that hate from any side helps the advancement of the discussion.

The whole argument is utterly and obviously without merit.

Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 07:24 PM by FreedomAngel82
the last few democratic president's were Christian too. Clinton was Baptist I believe, Carter was Methodists and Kennedy was Catholic. :eyes: And a lot of Senators are religious too if it's what they believe. This whole thing is bullshit and to hold on to power. They know it's all they have to run on.

9. I think you misunderstand
people are not anti-catholic. People are anti-Catholics iterfering in politics. I voted for Kerry because he is pro-choice, pro-stem cell research and for gay union if not gay marriage. If he were not these things I would not have voted for him. However the RCC is chipping away at the democratic vote because of choice and homosexuality (mostly choice). I have a problem with that personally.

Thank you all for welcoming me to DU. I have been a long time lurker. Sorry for the mini rant this is a button pusher and the gop knows it. I myself voted for Kerry and like many of you dont care what religion a man is. I would vote for Ronald Regan Jr. in a heart beat. Anyhow thanks for the welcome. I am going to take my meds now and do some chilling :)

11. You have to be religious on paper...
to be electable in the US. It's just an unfortunate part of the process.

Isn't that the standard right-wing claim about Democrats?

14. What I Want To Say...Very Important
I want all Catholics who voted for BushCo. to go to hell. And not just literally, either. Hell-you know, the place with fire and pitchforks and the devil and all? ALL CATHOLICS WHO VOTED FOR BUSH ARE KILLERS AND THEIR IS BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS! I WOULD LIKE TO SEND THEM THERE MYSELF! BTW I am Roman Catholic and went to Catholic schools most of my life so I have nooooo problem saying all of this. I am going to list some of the things that they are GUILTY of here...
1. Choosing to rip off the elderly and all others with the destruction of Social Security
2. More killing in Iraq
3. More killing in US due to no health care for most of us
4. Jobs go bye-bye...now we have to work at Wal-Mart
5. Ever-increasing deficit
6. Money wasted on Iraq
I could go on and on...
THIS REALLY BURNS ME UP
IF YOU ARE A CATHOLIC, HOW COULD YOU NOT VOTE FOR THE CATHOLIC CANDIDATE? YOU VOTED FOR SOMEONE WHO THINKS THEY ARE GOD.

16. Not anti-Catholic, but that little pesky item in the Constitution
that separates Church and state. A candidate religion should not be a criteria for whether or not I vote for him/her.

The day a candidate carries his/her religion on their sleeve - the day our democracy die.

You won't find candidates in any of the other industrialized nations making their religion part of their candidacy, or whether they attend church. Only in this country, where such a separation is in the Constitution, have we deteriorated lately. With the "in god we trust" on our coins, with the "so help me god" when a candidate takes office, with the public benedictions and the various prayer breaks fasts.

17. I'm not anti religion or anti catholic - just anti crap.
And when the church espouses bigotry it's crap.

Same goes for the followers who espouse the same, but obviously not those who don't.

18. The other day John Kerry said EXACTLY what all politicians of faith
should be saying. And that is: don't tell me about God or any religion for that matter because it has NO PLACE in politics!!! That is what many people are railing against around here. Why don't people get that?! How hard is that to understand? Because it's pretty simple really. I'm spiritual, not religious, and I just flat out DO NOT want to hear any mention of God by people who are representing ME-EVER EVER EVER! My DH is a non practicing Catholic and my MIL is a devout Catholic, and before my FIL died, I went and lit a candle for him and for her. It was a nice gesture and made her feel better-I was happy to do it. And you know something? She has NEVER EVER preached to me-NOT ONCE! I respect her for that and applaud Kerry BIG TIME for his attitude which is much the same. I have nothing against anyone who RESPECTS my beliefs. However I have a MAJOR problem with anyone who crosses the political line and tries to put THEIR God into MY world.

When that happens, THAT is where and when the fundies have declared all out war.

19. Again: I don't have to agree w/one's religion to support their politics.
Most Democrats are religious. Some aren't. They disagree on religion, but hopefully agree on various political issues. Where's the problem?
