For The 100th Time, It's Not Bigotry To Oppose Bigots
I don't care if they're Catholic, Orthodox Jews or Fundamentalist Baptist. If they put their hatred out there and try to influence people or laws or governments in favor of their hatred, they have to expect to have it flung right back in their face.

Don't make victims out of rightwing Christians - no one is doing a damn thing to them except for CONFRONTING THEIR NAKED BIGOTRY AND SAYING NO FUCKING WAY.

5. I'm not for tolerance
never have been, never will be. I'm for full and complete acceptance of all human beings as equal citizens in this nation, and on this planet.

And if you think opposing bigotry is bigotry, then I guess you would have had a rough time with all the folks who objected to the Inquisition and the totalitarian Communists and the Nazis.

Everyone who loves real freedom is a bigot, eh?

7. Are you serious? How are gays being denied anything?
Do you know how many rights go along with marriage?

13. Have you done a survey?
Why should they compromise? I wouldn't be willing to accept a "seperate but equal" solution. How easy would it be for people to lease apartments only to *married* couples and restrict those in civil unions? Very easy. And I could go on and on about how that is inviting discrimination.

15. Gay people can ALREADY get married.
All they have to do is find a someone who will perform the ceremony.

But maybe you meant a marriage license?
Because that is the official recognition of a financial contract.

And that is what they are being denied.

8. And who said anything about opposing bigotry with bigotry
When I wrote "fling it back," I meant reject it. Vociferously.

And are you serious, you honestly think gays and lesbians have full civil rights and access in this country?

17. So did you say the same thing when the Army was desegregated?
Or are you just being selective?

14. texas is voting on no gay foster parents, pulling out children in
up to 55,000 homes. and the question was,

"explain to me how gays are being denied anything?"

not only are these parents being deprived of ability to give, love, nurture, teach these children, but now because of our fear and discrimination of gays we are willing to hurt nad traumize that many children who have already been thru their own hells

3. Nobody said you can't oppose someone's beliefs or
positions but there is a difference in that and bigotry (like spreading untruths, painting with a broad brush, handling them differently than others with the same positions, repeating the lies of bigots, etc.). There is a difference that can be discerned.

4. Intolerant of the intolerant. I love it when bigots toss that back at me.
You know you've won your argument at that point.

19. Here's another way to look at it.
Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 08:42 PM by mmonk
Currently, the president of the United States is against the right of marriage for the gay community and says it is only between a man and a woman and all the rights that go with marriage such as the right to hospital visitation, the right of inheritance, etc., etc., are to be denied the gay community. That is a position that discriminates and can be argued is discrimination. Therefore, is it alright to push any lie about Americans, to label Americans as bigots, to label all Americans homophobes, etc? Or do you say the laws are bigoted, the president's position is bigoted, etc?

20. If someone adopts a bigoted position
does that not make them a bigot?

Those who defended slavery and thought Africans were chattel were really merely defending a bigoted position but not bigoted themselves?

Attacking their bigotry was inappropriate because they had a sincerely held belief system (bible based, even) that Africans were chattel?

No, just the ones that are. Actually, I personally wouldn't say it to people's faces (it's not nice), but they are bigots.
