For a group of people who like to characterize "real" Americans
as "rugged individualists", the Radical Right sure clings, in a pathetically desperate manner, to rigid conformity.

DISCUSS.

1. Those rugged individualists
They're the ones with the stickers on their cars trying to prove they're more patriotic than anybody else, those individualists?

Much like the non-conforming goth kids on South Park.

2. all rugged individualist republicans must have a bush sticker
it's a mandatory part of joining the rugged individualist club.

(as the people chant, in unison, "we are in-di-vid-u-als... we are in-di-vid-u-als... jesus is lord. jesus is lord. we are in-di-vid-u-als...)

9. Monty Python
Brian: "You are all individuals!"

Crowd: "We are all individuals!"

Guy in crowd: "I'm not."

3. They are the culture of LIES....
They have lied to so many for so long, that they now come full circle and lie to themselves.

They have woven a 'tangled web' indeed; and it has been LIFETIMES in the weaving.
The lies have grown so thick and convoluted, the slightest tug upon the slimmest thread would cause their entire REALITY to unravel...

They have so much ego and emotion invested in building it,
they could no more QUESTION it...
... than they could stick a gun in their own mouth.

SADLY, (if history is any guide),
they will NEVER stop their attempts to FORCE others to play along with their insane, self-inflicted delusions....

...until OTHERS stick a gun in their mouth.

4. Well, we all know how "rugged" a big engine and a gun makes you
individualist n (1840) 1: one that pursues a markedly independent course in thought or action

Synonyms: free spirit; nonconformist (dissenter); eccentric; rebel; maverick; loner

Oh yes, I see it now. Rethugs think mixing cowboy boots and hat with a business suit and a unilateralist foreign policy makes them "rugged individualists".

5. Well, they certainly like to go it alone internationally!
Perhaps they had no friends as children?

7. you'd think that 'rugged individualists' would think for themselves

8. Yes. And they are scared of everything. If they are so sure
they are going to heaven, why are they so afraid of death?

11. "Rugged individualism" is a fraud anyway
I don't think most conservatives live on an island, build their own homes, kill their own food, and live off the land! That would be rugged individualism. The only successful people who are truly "self reliant" are entrepreneurs. Just about everybody else had to be given opportunities by somebody else! Somebody had to hire them. Somebody had to decide to pay them more. They had a roof over their head before they could afford to buy a home because the owner of the property agreed to it. Almost nobody, conservative or liberal, does it all alone.
