Whistle-blower hearing closed to public

A federal court hearing on a former FBI translator's allegations that she was fired for complaining about security problems has been closed to the public.
Attorneys for Sibel Edmonds and several media outlets filed emergency motions seeking to have the hearing opened.

While parts of such cases are often closed during discussion of secret information, it is unusual for an entire proceeding to be closed, The Washington Post reported Thursday.

Edmonds, a specialist in Middle Eastern languages, was fired from her job as a contract employee at the FBI in 2002. She filed a lawsuit against the government for violating her rights by, among other things, leaking information in her personnel file.

The Justice Department has sought dismissal of Edmonds' lawsuit and says the case could lead to disclosure of classified information, the Post said.
