Rice changed terrorism report

Julian Borger
Saturday April 23, 2005
The Guardian

A state department report which showed an increase in terrorism incidents around the world in 2004 was altered to strip it of its pessimistic statistics, it emerged yesterday.
The country-by-country report, Patterns of Global Terrorism, has come out every year since 1986, accompanied by statistical tables.

This year's edition showed a big increase, from 172 significant terrorist attacks in 2003 to 655 in 2004.

Much of the increase took place in Iraq, contradicting recent Pentagon claims that the insurgency there is waning.

4. Rice's 'excuse' /reasoning is pathetic. good grief-this was a major

terroism report. And to think she got a promotion out of all this good work!!

......Ms Rice's spokesman, Richard Boucher, denied the change was politically inspired and said Ms Rice had decided the statistics would be better handled by the national counter-terrorism centre.

3. Is this not illegal or something?
This is a very dangerous administration. They'd rather be right instead of corrected and truthful.

10. hasn't Rice already committed perjury
before the 9/11 commission, along with Ashcroft?

An then today we hear that Gen. Sanchez was cleared by the Pentagon, and he also committed perjury before Congress. go figure...

Editor's Note: The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has written to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, asking him to open a perjury investigation of Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, the former US Military commander in Iraq.
According to an official memo dated September 14, 2003, and signed by Gen. Sanchez, he personally authorized the use of coercive interrogation techniques outlawed by the Geneva Conventions. In sworn testimony before the Senate Armed Services committee, he denied ever approving such techniques in Iraq.

The ACLU obtained a physical copy of the memo by suing the Defense Department under the Freedom of Information Act. Below, you will find a copy from the ACLU along with a typed transcript prepared by t r u t h o u t. - sw

13. No, there are only laws against receiving blow-jobs in the Oval Office...
From interns, and not giving all of the filthy steamy details when asked about it. If nasty details are not given and denied, then you will be butchered and burned at the stake by the Christian Coalition for being an abomination to Mom, God, apple pie, and the American flag.

In the meantime, its a free for all. At least, for those will money and contacts.

15. I plan on sending this to Reid, Pelosi, Boxer, Kennedy, Kerry, Byrd.
By withholding this crucial information from the American people, Condoleezza Rice exposed and continues to expose us to grave, escalating danger. And it is for nothing but raw political gain by these monsters.

When these people are finally ripped from power, the world will rejoice.

Rice Accused of Suppressing Terror Info

Fri Apr 22, 7:52 PM ET White House - AP Cabinet & State

By BARRY SCHWEID, AP Diplomatic Writer

WASHINGTON - A senior House Democrat who has been sharply critical of State Department reporting on terrorism is accusing Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice of denying Congress and the public important information about the number of incidents.

"There appears to be a pattern in the administration's approach to terrorism data: favorable facts are revealed while unfavorable facts are suppressed," Rep. Henry A. Waxman (news, bio, voting record) of California said in a letter to the department's acting inspector general, Cameron R. Hume.

The question is "whether political considerations played a role in Secretary Rice's decision" to hand off a State Department report to a government counterterrorism center, Waxman said. He requested an inspector general's investigation.

State Department spokesman Adam Ereli said of the request, "it's a matter under consideration." The department is "committed to being responsive to Congress and to contributing to an informed public debate," he said.

24. More like "the supporting data will be fabricated"
at the counter-terrorism centre.

<snip>
Ms Rice had decided the statistics would be better handled by the national counter-terrorism centre.
<snip>

How else would a republican handle statistically factual data? My guess is that it is time to type up another "yellow cake" memo and slip it into the file.
