Why is this night the same as any other night?
Because this night, I will go to a Seder at my in-laws (my husband's Jewish), to honor an ancient mono-theistic religion that has been dominated by men for thousands of years. Together with the 2 other major religions of this type- Christianity and Islam, have caused so many wars and inflicted huge amounts of pain and suffering throughout their history.

In the name of God, Jahweh, Allah humankind has become divided and hateful. Combative and self-righteous.

In the name of all that is good and compassionate in the human spirit, I say.. can't we all live in peace together and take care of each other... we are one race, the human race, and we are guardians of this precious planet and all that live here, that is out home.

Hopelessly idealistic, I know, just needed to say it

1. Dammit, you're not supposed to...
THINK about religion! Just OBEY!

:hi:

And especially don't think about the contradictions! They only exist to test your faith.

Back to my work on the Fossil Fabrication Committee for the Evil Atheist Conspiracy...

3. Oh- you're part of the FFCEAC ?
Nice work on that last 'discovery' in Africa.

I'm in quantum physics, a member of Scientists Researching Radically Extreme Communist Theories of the Universe.

4. Oh, zippy...
Happy Passover anyway!

Or as I said to the nice Jewish lady in the next cubicle at work yesterday...

"Happy Festival of the Dead Egyptian Babies!"

:toast:

(Me and the co-worker joke like this all the time. She delights in saying "God bless you" every time I sneeze, since she knows I'm an atheist.)

5. Hatred and bigotry seems uniquely human qualities.
People are more than capable of demonizing one another with and without religion. After all evolution is survival of the fittest - our origin is based on the ability to leave others in the dust.

6. You make a good point.
The world needs more idealism replacing fundamentalism.

"...can't we all live in peace together and take care of each other... we are one race, the human race, and we are guardians of this precious planet and all that live here, that is out home."

Sadly, this is what Christianity was about in the beginning (and still is if you know where to look), before human nature found it a good tool for control and oppression.

Fundamentalism, from Rome to Calvin to Falwell and the gang has perverted and distorted it. Many folks that the Fundies consider "hell-bound" (Buddists, Moslems, etc.--even Atheists) are far better examples of Christian behavior and love than they themselves are.

My 2 cents, anyway....
