Beady eye alert: By-election campaign underway (britain)
Edited on Wed Sep-17-03 01:40 PM by legin
There is a bye-election tommorow (18th sept) in britain, maybe worth watching to see if blair is taking a hit in the polls.

There is a proviso that sitting governments tend not to do too well in bye-elections that occur while a government is in power.

Brent East should be pretty solidly Labour.

the story is dated 9th september:

1. What is the Monster Raving Loony Party?
I'll be interested to know of any indicators of how Blair is fairing, but I got tickled when I read that.

2. It was a party started by Screaming Lord Sutch

an eccentric ex rock star. They have been around for years. Probably on name recognition our 4th party (lol).

Sadly Lord Sutch committed suicide a few years ago, which was a shame because he had a lot of fun appeal.

They always fail to make their deposit, although they did have some historical importance a few years ago when the SDP, an important party that broke away from the Labour Party (led by Lord Owen), got less votes than they did in a by-election. Lord Sutch offered to form a Monster Raving Loony - SDP coalition party, the SDP promptly merged with the Liberal party to form our now Lib-Dems.
