The Protesters Arrested In Westfield NJ Still Need You Help! Please Kick!

Many of you probably remember this incident from my posts tracking the situation at the time.

This is a letter I received from the father of one of the protesters who was unjustly arrested protesting Bush's visit to promote his Social Security plans.

I wanted to let folks know since when the event took place several people asked if there was some sort of legal defense fund that they could contribute to.

Now they have worked out the legalities and have it set up. Help out with a donation if you can. Please keep this thread kicked for the next few days and spread the info around to other sites and your friends if you would!

The following is a letter from Reverend Jim Colvin regarding his daughter Emily. She is a wonderful young woman, politically astute and passionate. She was one of the young people arrested while peacefully protesting during the Bush visit on March 4th.

Dear Friends and Neighbors.

As you know, Emily was arrested for no apparent reason while protesting when Pres. Bush visited Westfield March fourth. If you have viewed the video online you can see the confusion in her face as well as the way the police pushed her head down against the car. We continue to be puzzled and outraged by the breach of her rights and intend to wage a legal battle to do so.

At the moment the trial date is set for May 5th at 9 a.m. in Westfield. The date and location could change.

Nevertheless our friend Joe Masterson has agreed to administer the Emily Colvin Defense Fund to defray legal expenses, anticipated to be several thousand dollars. Should contributions exceed expenses, Joe will be in touch with any contributors with questions or suggestions about how to handle the situation. The signatories will be Joe and a colleague of his.

It looks good for getting the charges dropped. Not that they haven't been punished with the whole expensive and irritating experience!

rights will start forcing legal action on th admin for this. They can't just rip up the Constitution and ignore it. One of two of us crazy liberals might have the bill of rights memorized.

The look on Emily's face is just wrenching.

Their lawyer is pretty hopeful that they can get all of the charges dropped against her. We have turned over my sister's video and put them in touch with several key witnesses that I found here and through my call to Air America. Wish her well!

She is baby sitting for my sister tonight. Yes an accused criminal is caring for my mece for the evening!

This was taken at the beggining of the chimps SScrew us till we bleed tour. When this first came out people said that these kids deserved this and while the vid does not clarify the circumstance so much as illustrate the scene, it is powerful. Since we have very little say about what happens in that courtroom when she gets to trial, I think Ill go with my gut on this one.

Remember NYC protests last summer? Its been proven that they used similar tactics. Heard about the people they are kicking out of his medicine show? Same sort of reasoning.
