Wall St. Journal speaks for "Class Warrirors"
The Wall St. Journal published an editorial on April 26, 2005 which says the rich are overtaxed, and...

Even the most ardent class warriors have no choice but to concede that the U.S. income tax code is steeply progressive -- that is, that it soaks the rich.

The Wall St. Journal doesn't only speak for the rich and businesses as of this week.

Now it speaks for "ardent class warriors" as well.

This even-critics-agree-with-us garbage reminds me of an op-ed by Peggy Noonan about the pope I wrote about a few days ago.

Coincidentally(?) that op-ed by Peggy Noonan was also published in the Wall St. Journal.

Peggy Noonan claims in the op-ed that "even foes" of Pope Benedict XVI call him "thoughtful, eager for dialogue, sensitive, honest."

She doesn't name any "foes" of Benedict XVI who say that.

This Wall St. Journal editorial doesn't name any "ardent class warriors" who say that the US tax code "soaks the rich."

Of course, if they supplied names, then actual people could actually call them on this nonsense.

1. I guess that's why the top 1% are controlling
greater and greater amounts of the country's wealth. That's our progressive, soak-the-rich tax code at work.

Let's try a few on for size.

1. Even the most ardent rightwing hawks have no choice but to concede that the illegal invasion of Iraq has been a moral, financial and strategic disaster for the US.

2. Even the harshest critics of the anti-war movement call them "thoughful, principled, sensitive and honest."

Oh, this is so easy, I could get hooked on it.

9. They're not just speaking for business, anymore.
The Wall St. Journal is now the voice of "ardent class warriors" (though oddly enough, saying the opposite of what one would expect a class warrior to say.

13. I think the WSJ means us,
i.e. the bad guys, when it talks about "ardent class warriors". They mean that the people who are in favor of a progressive tax system are admitting that it isalready "steeply progressive", trying to imply that even pro-progressive tax types think the rich are getting soaked - obviously, they're full of crap, but it will play well with their readers...

8. Okay, let's give everyone a $50,000 exemption.
Then we will allow only exemptions for health care and education. After that, everyone is taxed equally without any further exemptions.

Anybody think the first exemption is too low, or any other basic exemptions should also be required?

Would this make them happy?

11. I like to think of myself as an ardent class warrior...
Actually, I don't, but I will from now on since the Wall St. "Journal" brought it up. I would never say the US tax code "soaks the rich" unless what I meant by that was soaks them with gifts of gold and ways to avoid paying taxes.

14. even the most ardent laissez faire capitalists have no choice
but to concede that the WSJ editorial board has lost touch with reality - that is, that they are nucking futs.

15. i concede nothing to those lying shitheads at the WSJ
the rich are paying less in taxes now as a percentage of their income than they used to.

those fucking maggots at the Journal are not speaking of the real issue of class and that is only the rich have access to the power levers of the society.

btw: didn't that peckerhead in the white house admit that thr rich avoid taxes because they have the money to hire fancypants accountants who find exemptions?

19. These numbers also assume that the stated rates are paid...
Is the WSJ analysis reality or based on the rate card? Because where taxes are concerned, the rich do not pay retail.
