I wonder if Pope Ratzi is gonna blather about this?
(He'll earn another Top 10 Conservatie idiots if he does)

The Brazilian Supreme Court has just ruled it is competent to hear a case about abortion of anencephalic fetuses, and 7 of the 11 who'll hear the case have already manifested themselves in favor of it.

Brazilian law forbids abortion, but allows it in case of rape or health risk.

If you want to have a few laughs, read this:

2. I went through a birth like this with a dear friend...

She was a tenured prof, and she carried the fetus to term. The hospital staff knew there was no hope for the baby's survival, and they made it as comfortable as possible until it passed a way a few hours after it was born. (I use the neuter pronoun only to protect the identity of the family).

My friend, who had always considered abortion barbaric, changed her mind after that experience.

Edited to add: I'm not surprised to learn that the church is against aborting these fetuses.

Christenings, Catechisms, Marriages, and funerals are big money makers for parishes.

8. Oh my. Any way to get a testimonial from her directly?
I'm debating a "the Church says it's wrong and therefore I believe it's wrong" Catholic in another forum, the words of this woman would be positively nuclear. I don't want to intrude o ranything, please be gentle if you do ask it from her. I don't want to hurt her more than she already was.

3. Insane. Truly insane.
BRASILIA, Brazil, JULY 15, 2004 (Zenit) - The decision by the Brazilian federal Supreme Court to allow the abortion of anencephalic fetuses -- those missing part or all of the brain -- could lead to even worse developments, warns a pro-lifer.

<snip>

Q: Does the minister's decision mean that other types of abortion will have to be addressed in the future?

Vieira: Eugenic abortion is defended by those who want the improvement of the human race and invest millions of dollars, also in Brazil, to achieve their objectives.

This is a dangerous precedent, because it opens the way to other types of abortion, for example, of the physically or mentally disabled, and even healthy human beings who, however, do not fit the criteria approved by eugenic groups.

The poor, the mutilated, and blacks, according to these groups, are "sub-races" and must not prosper, for which sterilization and compulsory abortion are instruments to contain these fringes of the population.

"After Hitler, eugenics has not disappeared. It has been renewed," said Edwin Black in his recently published book "The War Against the Weak -- Eugenics and the North American Campaign to Create a Superior Race."

<snip>

Wow. So, now anyone who is pro-choice is Hitler?

And, apparently, we think abirtion is so fun, hey, we're going to wipe out anyone who isn't like us (whatever "us" is.)

This is just nuts.

5. One thing I wonder
Edited on Thu Apr-28-05 11:49 AM by FreedomAngel82
is why is it anybody's business what a woman does with HER OWN body? The government doesn't own my body. So why should they butt into a private and very personal and emotional affair that's between the woman, her doctor and her God (if she believes in one)? It's emotional as it is. You don't need some church official telling you that you're evil and a murder or like these folks a Hitler supporter (they should be talking to Bushie). If these "holier then thou" types would worry more about health care, proper education and the enviornment for example things would be a lot better. They're pro-fetus. Not pro-life.

7. Lamest. Argumentation. EVAH.
"Say your opponents are like Nazis."

I even avoid likening the Bush regime to Nazis (evidence in favor of it notwithstanding) because of this.

Yeah, like we're afraid anencephailc fetuses are going to grow up, reproduce, and "soil the gene pool." Jesus H. Q. Rhyste on a nuclear-powered pink yellow-polkadotted pogo stick.
