Vietnam Vets...Have you been back?
Been listening to NPR's Vietnam series this week. A number of Vets have talked about their experiences about going back to Vietnam and the feelings they experienced. I don't have any desire to return. It's not the people of Vietnam it's just something I could not do.

1. Have not been back but think I would if I had the chance
I have talked to a couple of buddies that have gone back and they recommend going. It would be nice to visit the sites where I lost friends and say goodbye, and let them know I still think of them often.
At the time I just put the KIA's out of my mind, I would like to give them the respect they deserve.
That said I understand why you do not want to go there. It would not be a happy trip.

2. I'm afraid if I got withn a hundred klicks of Bau Bang
I'd totally lose it. I listened to vets today who spoke about "hearing" Vietnam at peace. No Hueys, arty, B-52s or other war noises.

5. Could it be healing?
To let go of the war? To fully realize in your bones that it's not that way anymore. The war is really over.

I don't know at all, just asking. Feel free to not reply if it's too much to think about.

7. I haven't been back and probably won't go back but
I always said, while humping the boonies, "This would be a beautiful country if it weren't for this war".

8. Not yet, but I think about Vung Tao fondly.
The country was stunningly beautiful and the people were just like us but under extreme conditions.
