How do Americans handle trauma and emotional upset?
I am watching CSpan 2's Book TV and they have the authors of "One Nation Under Therapy". They seem to be poopooing therapy to a degree. 9-11 was mentioned and the way teachers handled the one year anniversary. They also mentioned not using red pens and pencils for teachers to mark papers. They also talk about instilling "patriotism" and "morals". These ladies seem to be right wing (they are at the AEI).

One thing I find weird about our society is all these "impromptu" memorial altars where people leave teddy bears, flowers etc. We do this way too much I find.

I too think it is stupid to send therapists to have tramatized children draw pictures. They need clean water, food and new homes after a tsunami, not coloring books.

But banning dodge ball when you have bullies on the playground might be appropriate. Turning 9-11 into patriotic, hate Arab, pro-war forums is not good for kids or society at large.

So, how do you feel about our society and therapy?
