Christian Fearthink.
How to create a society thankfull for having a military that pulls the trigger when the enemy produces a water pistol?

Answer: Start them at an early age to understand the abstract concepts behind paranoia. Ruin them early with the idea that Satan is a foreigner with notions of burning and sodimizing forever if jr. doesn't go with the program. Instill the idea that Christians are the "chosen", worthy of Heaven, and therefore, all other godless creatures are the devils creations. Racism is a must. Without racism, there is no "us" vs. "them". Now, keep drilling into this Jesushead that the enemy is waiting to attack at all times, and, voila, you have the stinking cesspool of a society that exists in America today.

Thank you and God bless.

4. That the slaughter continues
while America is enthralled by a girl who didn't show up at her wedding.

In fairness, Fundies are only a part of the problem.

2. Brilliant analysis
You have described the local First Baptist Church of Anytown, U.S.A., perfectly.

3. Reminder: "Baptist" covers a wide range of denominations
from uber-conservative Southern Baptists to moderate/liberal American Baptists

My (American) Baptist church has a female pastor as liberal as one could wish for, and likewise the members I know.

6. the southern baptist church was overthrown
by the ultra conservatives. of course no one realized the implications until it was to late. to bad the left dismissed religion as a force they needed to understand and cooperate with. one also reaps what one doesn`t sow

7. Interesting.
Other liberal underestimations:

Hate radio.
The rise of the Neocons.
Corporate ownership of everything.

8. How Do You Suggest that we "Cooperate" With Them?
Edited on Sun May-01-05 01:27 PM by AndyTiedye
to bad the left dismissed religion as a force they needed to understand and cooperate with.

In case you hadn't noticed, the churches have been pretty damn
quiet about all of our issues, like social justice and
the war. Those things don't seem to matter as much to them
as punishing gay people for being gay, or forcing girls to bear children.

There are rare exceptions, and we applaud them when we find out
about them (they can be difficult to hear over the din of the
Fundies' giant megaphone). But they are so few and far between,
and even their churches are in many cases facing takeover by
Fundies. We really do appreciate the UUs and the Quakers, and
wish there were more churches like them.

Those churches already controlled by the right wing, such as the
Catholic church and the Southern Baptists only want to discuss the
terms of our surrender.

Would you have us start by throwing gays to the lions, or should
we start with pregnant women who need abortions?

5. I wouldn't say that all Baptist churches are that way. Certainly a lot of
them are especially here in MS. However, I visited one that friends of mine said was not your typical Baptist church. I was surprised to hear a message not all about gloom and doom. So there are some out there. I am not Baptist by the way. I just wanted to see what it was about. I went to a Christian school where I was one of the few who were not Baptist and it turned me off of that religion. Most teachers and administrators were hypocrits. But there are some who aren't

9. Wow, I don't know Christians who think that.

I am not sure which Christian denomination teaches that Satan is a "foreigner" and that non-Christians are "the devil's creation". For that matter, although some (heck, even many) Christians believe that "their way" is the only way to heaven, none of them count themselves as the chosen ones because they don't feel they are a 'race'. Racism may be a byproduct, but it is not a 'must'--because there can be non-Christians of the same race.

I see what you're saying, but it's kind of convoluted and blanketed, IMO.
