What Does That Mean
Every now and then someone makes a post using letters which represent words. Sometimes people including myself do not know what those letters mean. I think it would be a good thing for people to post what these acronyms mean.

1. Here's a link to common abbreviations used in posts.

2. Hahahaha
.... or stop using the acronyms!

I also am bothered by shorthand left over form the days of tiny bandwidth where every letter in a post was a burden on the system.

u for you 2 for to or too (as in Husb2Sparkly) :)

Trying to read an otherwise (mostly) coherent post with that sort of shorthand just makes my barely functional, old, withered brain shut down.

4. Something I find particularly amusing ...
... is that many/most of the folks who use such acronyms (FWIW, TTBOMK, AFAIK, TIA, etc.) weren't even around in the days we (yes, I was on the Internet back in the 70's... and on-line in the 60's) struggled with 300 baud modems and glass TTYs. I still remember when the 1200 baud Hayes modems became affordable and how astonishingly fast they were. It was nice to get rid of the acoustic couplers. There's a LOT of stylistic pretentiousness on the Internet ... mostly prolonged adolescents, I suspect.

5. Strictly speaking, they're not acronyms.
They're abbreviations. An "acronym" is when an abbreviation makes another word, like Nato or Nasa or Scuba.
