Shouldn't this Laura Bush joke get more attention?
"I'm proud of George. He's learned a lot about ranching since that first year when he tried to milk the horse. What's worse, it was a male horse." (Laura Bush at the White House Correspondents Dinner)

In other words, her joke is that her husband was masturbating a horse or at least fondling one, and that he did not know the difference between a teat and a penis. Isn't that an extraordinarily crude joke for anyone to make about the President of the United States?

3. I think so. That joke should have been THE clip local stations played
in their coverage of her performance at the dinner.

If Hillary Clinton had told a joke like that as First Lady .... yadda yadda yadda ... (Oh, but I forgot, HER husband was a moral derelict, whereas Shrub is a Christian, so his wife can tell a pornographic joke, right?)

69. I just e-mailed Focus on the Family about this
Here is my message to them.

I am seriously disturbed about the joke I heard Laura Bush made the other night. When she said of George Bush, "He's learned a lot about ranching since that first year when he tried to milk the horse. What's worse, it was a male horse." I sometimes have to watch over children and if they were to ask me why you can not milk male horses I do not know what I would say. This is certainly a very disturbing statement, so I was hoping that Focus on the Family would make a public statement about how to talk to children when they hear such filth from our public leaders.

Sincerely,
Bjorn Johnson

I will make sure to let DU know if I hear back.

5. The Blast At Babs Is What Got Me...
Comparing her mother-in-law to Don Corleone? That's something I would have expected on DU, not coming from Pickles. It's one thing to "roast" someone whose present (or at least the body was in the room), it's another to take a blast at someone whose not there and can't shoot back.

Methinks Pickles is finally bringing her contempt for that old bat into the open a bit. This looks like the Pickles who would have been fun to smoke a couple of doobs with.

Edited on Tue May-03-05 07:57 AM by Fridays Child
...were, undoubtedly, all informed ahead of time. I guess she could have refused to tell the jokes, but I doubt if anyone was offended. In fact, I would imagine that Babs loves her reputation for being an imperious matriarch.

Anyway, these people aren't as prudish as they would have their Christian fundie supporters believe. This topic has caused a real stir over at FR. The snake handlers over there are outraged but the bushbots are so loyal to B*sh that he could leave a bag of burning dog poop on their porches and they'd have it bronzed. And they're acting like Laura's jokes were cute and nothing to get worked up about.

14. This Was Calculated PR
No doubt all was well rehearsed...but I get a feeling Bunnypants wasn't privvy on all that was going on, all he was scripted was to get out of the way. This had the smell of a Karen Hughes to milk some of Pickles "popularity" to prop up her old man's falling numbers.

I'd agree, Babs probably enjoys when people tremble at the mention of her name. But dare I say, I'm glad the dragon lady was somewhat socially moderate...imagine if this hagatha had the zeal of a Shafly or Coultergeist...things could have been a lot worse.

Cheers...

Babs is a mean momma. Anything you want from Georgie Porgy, you have to go through her. I wouldn't be surprised if she was in the bedroom on their wedding night, giving directions.

George I hates Babs, wanted to leave her in the sixties, and she has complete control over the Bush Boys, who in turn hate each other and their father. I wouldn't be surprised if this fucking administration ends with President Oedipus putting out his own eyes and banishing himself.

In the form of a humorous epitaph

It stuck with me because it's one of those weird examples of something way too raunchy for kids (which kids LOVE) that manages to work its way into supposedly "wholesome" materials.

16. The answer, yes.
Anytime his name comes up in any context, be sure to say, "Oh, that horsefucker?" When people look alarmed you can play them a clip on your iPod.

You can drop in casual comments like, "Before he was a cheerleader at Andover he was voted most likely to suck seed in equestrian camp."

The public now knows the truth, which we at DU have been saying for years: the guy sucks donkey dick.

24. Is the First Lady Running for President in 2008
The Demo's have been reacting to Karl Rove's brilliant strategies. It's time to get ahead. What will be his next shocker? Running Laura for President? If she is running against Hilary, my money is on Laura. Who do u think the Red states will vote for? It is imperative that the Demo's have a plan to win back some of the moderate middle class lost to Bush, or no victory in 2008. Hilary might be the best candidate, like Gore in 2000, but she is not electable. Too intellectual for a large part of the Country. I hate to say it, but the Demo's need to find an equivalent to George.

Going on about "indecency" and "poor judgement" ... of course, neither Al Gore nor John Kerry would be foolish enough to mistake a horse (let alone a stallion) for a cow, so there wouldn't have been a premise for the "joke" to begin with.

Good point, Onlooker -- it does presume that the current incumbent is ignorant and crude, and it's actually rather sad that the man's wife would be the one to point that out to all and sundry.
