CBS: Bush Had Secret War Plan - TRUTH BACKED UP BY LONDON TIMES
Edited on Tue May-03-05 01:56 PM by BigBearJohn
WASHINGTON, April 16, 2004

Book: Bush Had Secret War Plan

(CBS/AP) Investigative reporter Bob Woodward of The Washington Post reveals, in his new book "Plan of Attack," how plans for the Iraq war began, in secret, shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Woodward talked exclusively to CBS News' Mike Wallace for this Sunday's "60 Minutes."

The Woodward book is packed with hitherto secret stories out of the mouth of the president and his top aides in the year preceding the president's final decision to go to war against Saddam Hussein.

Among them:

Just 72 days after 9/11, President Bush ordered Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to come up with a secret war plan to get Saddam. Rumsfeld passed the order on to Gen. Tommy Franks and gave Franks a blank check worth hundreds of millions of dollars. But the Congress was kept in the dark about it.

1. Wish he said that . . .
. . . the plans began before the 9/11 attacks.

9. He already published the book this story is from 2004....but interesting
that CBS has the link up on today's site or at least the link went to May3,05 while the article and all the info on Woodward interview and links to audio are from CBS Archives of April 16, 2004.

Woodward's already published book may come in handy for "investigators" if there are ever any congressional hearings.... IF...

4. CBS has at least one 'fact' wrong .....
Woodward is an investigative reporter in the same way I can make pigs fly out of my ass.

Why, one might logically ask, did the 'good' Mr. Woodward (who used to be a good guy once upon a time) not speak up **before** the fucking war?

Huh?

Bobby boy ...... ?

You got an answer to that ......... ?

You fuckwadian whore.

5. The PNACers started planning to
invade Iraq while Clinton was still in office. They had to wait until the chimp was installed to carry it out. Clearly Woodward either doesn't know about or isn't interested in getting at the truth.

8. Exactly
The started planning probably in Reagan's administration and finished during Bush I's but Clinton came along and messed everything up so W had to do the plans. Maybe he didn't come out because he would be called a "conspeiracy theorist" and now there's proof with the memo and he probably would've been killed by the PNACers. Even though he's way late I hope he screams it from the rooftops.

31. I have a friend who develops programming
for some of the cable channels including the History Channel. He's basically a kool-aid drinker, but will at least listen to other points of view. Anyhow, I told him about PNAC and "the New Pearl Harbor" and where to locate the info on the web. Told him I thought it would make a fascinating and informative documentary and that he'd be doing a real public service if he could get it on the air. His response: The powers that be wouldn't go near something like that. Too potentially harmful to the BFEE.

34. Absolutely. The planning started BEFORE 9/11 and those attacks
were at least LIHOP and more probably MIHOP. The Griffin speech and books are not to be missed.

By trying to say that the planning started AFTER the 9/11 attacks, this Woodward exposé can be viewed as a coverup of the true extent of the treason.

I nominated it, but with that subject line it would be very confusing for folks. The CBS Archive info is good to read..but the subject line needs change.

He puts me to sleep.

Just a question, didn't someone suggest on here a few months ago that he was a former intelligence guy and his access to Bush, Casey and others in the repug cabal may have to do with the fact he is actually a spook.

and you know what they say, "Once a spook, always a spook." There is also some suggestion that Woodward while working at the Post also continued to work undercover as a CIA media asset (the Washington Post's publisher, probably not coincidentally, also having close connections to the CIA through Project Mockingbird).

Secret Admirers: The Bushes and the Washington Post

<snip>

Philip Graham, Meyer’s successor, had been in military intelligence during the war. When he became the Post’s publisher, he continued to have close contact with his fellow upper-class intelligence veterans—now making policy at the newly formed CIA—and actively promoted the CIA‘s goals in his newspaper. The incestuous relationship between the Post and the intelligence community even extended to its hiring practices. Watergate-era editor Ben Bradlee also had an intelligence background; and before he became a journalist, reporter Bob Woodward was an officer in Naval Intelligence. In a 1977 article in Rolling Stone magazine about CIA influence in American media, Woodward’s partner, Carl Bernstein, quoted this from a CIA official: “It was widely known that Phil Graham was somebody you could get help from.” Graham has been identified by some investigators as the main contact in Project Mockingbird, the CIA program to infiltrate domestic American media. In her autobiography, Katherine Graham described how her husband worked overtime at the Post during the Bay of Pigs operation to protect the reputations of his friends from Yale who had organized the ill-fated venture.

After Graham committed suicide, and his widow Katharine assumed the role of publisher, she continued her husband’s policies of supporting the efforts of the intelligence community in advancing the foreign policy and economic agenda of the nation’s ruling elites. In a retrospective column written after her own death last year, FAIR analyst Norman Solomon wrote, “Her newspaper mainly functioned as a helpmate to the war-makers in the White House, State Department and Pentagon.” It accomplished this function (and continues to do so) using all the classic propaganda techniques of evasion, confusion, misdirection, targeted emphasis, disinformation, secrecy, omission of important facts, and selective leaks.

28. Bush is being scolded for his screw ups, Woodward is the messenger.

Let me see if I am getting this correctly. Bush spoke to Bob Woodward two years ago(who helped sink a Republican President Richard Nixon 30 years ago) and told Woodward his secret history planning the Iraq war? Now Woodward is reporting details in a new book? Why would even Bush be so stupid? Is this being done on purpose when the Iraq investment turned sour? If the war was progressing as planned did Bush think this information would be positive? At least this time it won't be from Deep Throat, maybe Woodward will get another Pulitzer anyway.

Who wants to bet there is a Pentagon study showing the war in Iraq is lost?

Who wants to bet Blair's attorney General Goldsmith will be disbarred in England for giving bad legal advice involving the Iraq war?

Life is certainly not dull in the 21st century.

Of course this is just speculation by a "moderate (not fascist) Imperialist" who rejects oil wars.
