I received my first piece of hate mail from an LTE that was published
The letter was pretty tame actually but I find it odd that people would get upset enough to write a letter and send it to some one they don't even know.

<snip>
My LTE was:
Dear Editor,
According to financial analyst the current gas prices are greatly inflated and exaggerated. So why are gas prices so high? Because oil companies can charge what they please while our government looks the other way. Over 80% of political contributions from the Oil industry have been to Republicans. The Congress, the White house and Supreme Court are all controlled by Republicans and unless the American people wise up you can bet that the gas prices will continue to soar.

</snip>

and the letter said something like.

Only a democrat would think that the president could control oil prices.

the top 10 Conservative Idiots last week or the week before featured all sorts of quotes from Republicans blaming Bill Clinton for high gas prices a few years ago. Did you get a return address for your "fan"?

5. I don't think so
The letter was sent to my mother in-laws home who has the same last name but is listed in the phone book. She called and told my husband that I got mail at her house. He asked her to open it and read the mail over the phone. The person only signed with there first name and last initial but I don't think there was a return address.

7. Those people never sign their names.
I have been getting hate stuff for ages or else letters full of Xian pamphlets. I haven't gotten the pamphlets lately so I think whoever was doing that is no longer among the living. That stuff went on for about ten years.

2. But he said he would...
....tell them to just open the spigots if oil prices went high. But that was back beyond your fans memory, I suppose.

3. If you care to respond
You could remind them that when Clinton was president, the republicans had no problem blaming the president.

There are some good quotes here:

4. Typical Response

They're the same people who blamed all the bad economic news on "Clinton Economic" policies or think Raygun created the economic boom of the 90's.

If you encounter a loser like this ask if we should stop any government subsidies to farmers, tobacco, pharamceutical or airlines. He'll scream how this is in the "national interest". Call him a hypocrite and move along.

On Edit: If you're not satisfied, then ask about the National Petroleum Reserve which Bunnypants could open with the stroke of a pen and flood our own market with oil that would definitely lower the price.

6. Anonymous sniping should be ignored
But congratulations! It shows you struck a nerve with someone, even if they were too lily-livered to sign their full name. Consider that this person is probably some scared little Republican kool-aid drinker, watching as his (and I'll bet a nickel that it's a man) hero's administration falls apart before his very eyes. He's a pathetic little man with no alternative plan.

8. Thanks
Unfortunately the mentality of this person is pretty common where I live.
