Fatal asthma attack fears 'rife'

The one and a half million people in Europe who have severe asthma live in fear of a fatal attack, researchers have warned.

They say one person dies from asthma every hour in Western Europe.

But 90% of these deaths are considered preventable by the World Health Organization.

The European Federation of Allergy and Airways Diseases Patients' Association (EFA) was highlighting the issue to mark World Asthma Day.

We know that people with asthma often get just five or 10 minutes with a health professional every year
Professor Martyn Partridge , Asthma UK

An EFA survey of 1,300 people with severe asthma in France, Spain, Germany, Sweden and the UK found one in four feel their condition is "life-threatening."
<snip>

Evidently the US news doesn't consider this a news item???

1. I didn't even know there was a World Asthma Day

Thanks for the links. I'll read the articles while I sit here wheezing and gasping for air. I'm so glad Bush* created the "Clear Skies" initiative - otherwise I would have real breathing problems! :eyes:

2. I know -- I have to go to a wood smoke free area for the winter
This is a very important subject -- I would guess that many asthma sufferers may not be getting treatment. I would also expect that the un-necessary deaths due to asthma are just as high (or higher) in the US.

I've seen statistics that show as air quality worsens they can predict an corresponding upswing in deaths due to asthma and other related illnesses. This is deliberate murder by corporations.

When corporations can breath and be affected by pollution -- then and only then will corporations be human.

4. Day! ha, how about lifetime
Every day is athsma day for this body... winter is better in scotland,
as the pollins are not out... but here comes summer and the wheezing,
never travelling without the inhaler, and being careful not to over
exert.

If i was not afflicted, i'd never miss it.... its hardly a party.

Being in the remote areas where the air is purer, is certainly
an improvement, as cities are exhasperating.
