Just thought I'd ask.

films.

7. he's Canadian
and son of Donald Sutherland. I seriously doubt he'd vote Republican even if he were/is a US citizen.

21. Aaaah, true that--but he had the money handed over to him.
That makes an enormous difference. I was raised Dem, but there is little in my family to inherit. And I'm still Dem and will always be so.

3. I no longer watch it anyway. Hubby does. I thought Keifer was a Dem?
But in the Biz, you have to be nice to everyone , even Rush. It probably is a publicity shot. 24 IS on FOX you know!:)

5. Just for the official record, well, Sutherland's thoughts on the war,
and other bad things the Bush Administration has done are availible if you Google. I think you're right that the shot of him and Rush there is probably a "professional courtesy" thing.

4. I watch it to make fun of it...
...and I download the episdoes commercial-free, so I can say FU to FOX in the process. Between 24 and Alias, we're given the impression that our intelligence agencies are incompetent, prone to human rights abuses, populated by traitors and stupid people, and they serve the selfish short term interests of self-serving, petty thugs pretending to be leaders...

Hurm...reality tv?

6. That show has become so reactionary in its defense of torture
Rush is the least of it. But I still watch. I guess I've just been hooked from season one and can't break the habit. Still, I'm furious with the writers/ producers.

I have always wished I could see that show because I used to like Keifer when I was growing up. Now, he's stooped to a low I cannot fathom. Ugh! Having your picture taken beside Hypocrit Limbo is one thing. Smiling for the picture is another. I couldn't fake it that much. Or is he faking the smile?

13. I only watched it once and it broke my basic show rule.
That is, if all the female cast members are "babes," I refuse to watch. It's unrealistic, especially when half the male actors are toads. (Worse case scenario, everyone's beautiful.) Karl Rove takes it to a new level of unwatchability.

16. Doesn't matter... I still think the show is great....
Despite some of the weirdness (for example, the President and "good guys" always watch Fox News... the terrorists watch a news station with a logo strikingly similar to CNN), bias, absurd misuse of technological terms, and display of grossly impossible technology, it's still damned good television. Monday nights' episode was particularly harrowing, IMO. Enjoyed it immensely.

18. The FOX News watching
would come to no surprise. After all, the show is broadcasted on FOX, so I don't expect the characters to be watching MSNBC or CNN.

19. Agreed.
I've watched it from the beginning and I'll continue to watch every episode as long as the show lasts. If anyone watched the 2nd season, it seemed to promote very strongly the idea of LIHOP or MIHOP. The show does quite often promote the idea of torture as a last option and I'm sure that many of the people watching the show dont't understand the danger of the slippery slope, but it is just a show. I think Sutherland is a great actor and the show provides big buck entertainment every week. Yeah, there are several things on the show I disagree with, but overall, I think it's great.

24. Me too
The show has a lot of subversive elements - defense contractors
helping terrorists just to build business, nuclear power plants
blowing up - if anything it would make people more wary of nuclear
power and defense spending.

I'm amazed at how they keep the suspense going every episode.
The current season has script-writers from La Femme Nikita,
another favorite show of mine. After the last two episodes,
I think they should do a spin-off, "La Femme Chloe".

A lot of people thought the movie "Starship Troopers" glorified
fascism, but in the DVD audio commentary, the director makes it
clear that he is anti-fascist.

29. "24" Is Very Subtle In How It Presents It Politics.
Things like torture, violence and civil-rights are used to beat you over the head and provide instant gratification but they ALWAYS have substantial and negative side-effects. I skipped the second season but I'm glad to be watching this year.

35. I've been too shocked by the rampant use of torture
to worry about whether they watch Fox News. Cable news selection strikes me as the least of the show's problems this season.

36. Dont watch fox
Fox owns Fox news, so I don't watch fox at all. I love Football, but if the Steelers are on Fox, I go to a bar and watch a sattelite feed. I'll only watch syndicated Simpsons. Then again i rarely watch TV anyhow.

25. Yes. I try to separate the personal from the professional lives
otherwise, we are no better than the freepers who boycott Barbara Streisand and Alec Baldwin.

As long as Sutherland's time is taken mostly by his acting and not by playing policies, I will watch 24 - have been doing it since the very first episode. Have not watched any of his movies, though.. Just did not find any appealing, with limited amount of time that we have to watch movies.

Kept hearing how great it was, and considered viewing. Then saw portions with the typical Muslim terrorists stereotype and never tuned in again.

28. I watched and enjoyed the first season. But that was because it was done
before 9/11. It was just a story about rogue terrorists who were personally after Jack Bauer, and it had a good story line. Since then, I have tuned in to random episodes just to see what its like, and it just seems to be pathetic propagnada of the worst kind.

Completely jumped the shark after just a season.

30. My husband liked the show.
I thought the first season was great. I don't watch it since he died because it's too incredible a stretch, without being fantasy, for me. Even Keiffer said he didn't know how many times his character could save the world without adrenaline poisoning.(Paraphrasing here; not a direct quote.)
