The Monroe Doctrine, R.I. P.
With the ascent of Lopez-Obrador in Mexico and the crumbling of the oligarchy, the wheel is coming full circle on gringo imperialism. That imperialism which was the cornerstone of the Monroe Doctrine and countless subversions by U.S. of true democracy is facing its death throes. Already a critical mass has assembled in the perosns of Chavez, Lula, Kirschener and others which makes it all but impossible for the U.S. to enforce its will as in the old days. What is more, anyone associated with the U.S. and spouting its magic elixir of tax cuts and free enterprise as in Argentina, is tainted for good.

It is a new day dawning.

1. It seems the neocons were conservatives after all
Ironically, historians will remark that it was on the watch of these
pigs, that the empire collapsed.... and that the US started the trend
towards empire reduction and collapse that it will, in future times,
be just another ex-empire like britain.

2. The Monroe Doctrine was a statement AGAINST imperialism
and foreign interference. It was issued in response to the efforts of the British, French, Spanish, and Russians to keep meddling in the Western Hemisphere at a time when new republics in Latin America were throwing off the chains of Spanish colonialism. The United States welcomed the liberation of Latin America and extended recognition to the republics of Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico in 1822.

This doesn't contradict your statement that the US has since done infinite sorry business of its own in Latin America. But the Monroe Doctrine was a better and wiser principle than you give it credit for.

3. As is always the case there is a certain amount of honor among thieves.
The U.S. based thieves just didn't want the overseas thieves to intrude into their territory.
