What should be the media reaction to staged news?
Edited on Wed May-04-05 07:29 AM by paineinthearse
The rethugs have for weeks been holding social security and other "dog and pony shows". Today they are producing an Hispanic extravaganza. What should the media's reaction/coverage be to faked news? What should DU do?

Luis Gutierrez, U.S. Representative, D-IL
Christopher B. Cannon, U.S. Representative, R-UT
Tom Tancredo, U.S. Representative, R-CO
George Allen, U.S. Senator, R-VA
Alberto Gonzales, Attorney General, Department of Justice
Carlos M. Gutierrez, Secretary, Department of Commerce

Another staged "dog and pony show" to generate "news" Write to CSPAN. Demand they not cover such politically biased events.

1. A reporter should be...
... explaining both the event and its context. If it's a dog-and-pony show, choreographed and cast to ensure predictable results, despite being billed as non-partisan and open to everyone, then reporters should say so.

Short and factual. Give them a complelment, then a whack!

CSPAN producers:

I commend CSPAN for giving similar partisan news events balanced coverage. For example, you recently covered speeches at colleges by party chairs Dean and Mehlman.

But until other all parties begin producing fake news extravaganzas as the repubicans do, I recommend that CSPAN boycott staged events such as the one below.
