US plans on retreating from Iraqi cities !
Did anyone else see what newspaper this was from on C-SPAN this AM? The host, Peter Flin, was reading from a newspaper - I thought it was either the Wall St Journal or the Washington Times - and specifically stated that the US had plans for the next 3 months to withdraw troops from the cities and permit the Iraqis to govern themselves. This is big news!

It seems that the last couple of debacles, where the teenager was killed yesterday at the wedding and the 10 Iraqi policemen were killed by accident the other day, has caused the military and the Administration to reconsider their strategy. If this is true, it is a dramatic change in strategy. It is a withdrawal or a retreat.

The positive for the Adinistration and for our troops is that there will be far fewer casualties. It will apppear we have stabilized the country, when in fact, we have deserted it. Any further datails on this story is appreciated.

1. I heard it too
I heard Peter read it too.

I thought that it was very interesting that this story emerges a day after the last Saddam tape.

3. They'll fall back to
the perimeter of the oil fields. It just means they'll have more personnel to patrol the pipeline!

4. enables them to claim the chaos that is sure to happen is the doing..
of the Iraqis themselves, also will limit casualties in the run-up to the Presidential election and provides more protection to the prized oil fields and requires that the "terrorists" or "occupation resistance forces" (depending on your point of view) attack troops in open areas as opposed to urban centers.

A political move that creates more instability in a region declared to be liberated by pathological liars.
