Abortion restrictions pass House, expected to pass Senate
Abortion restrictions pass House, expected to pass Senate
by Meghann Lora,
University Daily

April 29, 2005

Pro-life Republicans made great strides Wednesday when the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that restricts access to abortions for minors. The bill must be passed in the Senate and signed by the president before becoming a law.

The Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act would make it a federal offense to transport a minor across state lines for an abortion to circumvent parental notification laws, unless a judge has issued a waiver.

Sarah Wheat, public affairs director for NARAL Pro-Choice of Texas, said Texas has a parental notification law and if the House bill becomes a law, it would affect many teenagers in Texas.

1. And when minors will resort to back alley illegal abortion
just to have it... and will die, those hypocrites will pontificate that "she deserved it."

Yes, I know that there are many parents here who would defend this, but if they will stop and think, they will have to agree that one cannot legislate communication any more than one can legislate that couple who married should continue to love each other and stay together.

Just wait until this touches too close to home to any of them.. then they will change their tune

2. I expect that soon ADULT women ...
... will need to seek spousal permission or track down all possible "fathers" AND of course it will be illegal to cross state lines to circumvent idiotic laws.

7. Don't laugh
That issue has been raised by some "Father's Rights" Advocacy groups.

No, I don't have a link - but I heard Bernie Ward talk about it many months ago.

5. Reminiscent of Dred Scott.
Slaves who escaped to a free state did not become free. They were not to be considered "citizens".

Apparently, this new law is attempting to deny citizenship and rights to those fleeing oppressive laws in their own states by having a medical procedure done in a free state.
