My - LTTE
going out in the mail in the morning...

Dear Editor:

Last week, President Bush had his 4th televised Press Conference. He was asked many questions about the economy, social security, energy, and foreign issues. He was also asked about the recent polls which indicate declining support for his proposals and job performance. As he has maintained since taking office in 2001 -he said he doesn't pay attention to polls (at least publicly).

People are anxious about rising gas prices - his response was to hold the Saudi Prince's hand and quip that he doesn't have a magic wand. People are worried about the rising federal deficit and how this impacts the economy. President Bush's solution is to dig the hole deeper and make tax cuts for the wealthy permanent. People are worried about Social Security and their retirement. President Bush's response is to charge ahead despite strong public disapproval to social security privatization.

Polls are "snap-shot" votes which indicate the general mood of the people - and the mood of the country is not good for President Bush or for Congress. Instead of addressing the concerns - President Bush has chosen to ignore public sentiment. When he emphatically states he does not pay attention to polls - isn't he really saying to the American People - "WHO CARES WHAT YOU THINK?"

2. My only quibble is with your punctuation
I don't like dashes personally. I think they make for a kind of jerky read. All those dashes could be replaced by either commas or semi-colons and I think it would read more smoothly. For what it's worth, I would replace them as follows: comma (I would also eliminate the words "he said" in that sentence since you already stated that he maintains this), semi-colon, no punctuation, comma, comma.

Excellent points, though.
