"Real Catholics Don't Support Pro Abortion Candidates" That's
Edited on Thu May-05-05 05:40 PM by chieftain
the bumper sticker I saw while driving in Orlando last week. It ticked me off so badly I maneuvered my car in front of the jerk , slowed down so that he couldn't miss the Kerry strip on my car as well as the emphatic Sign of the Cross I made. I cannot believe
how many of my co religionists have abandoned the admonition that one should first remove the beam from one's own eye before commenting on the mote in the neighbor's.
One of the best prayers I ever heard was "Please dear God, grant me the wisdom to know my own sins." Were the plea to be heard, I believe these pious busybodies would be horrified by the sight of countless mangled bodies, American, Allied, Insurgent and Innocent, strewed on the landscape of Iraq. All because of the man that they helped put in office and with whom they remain complicit in a continuing crime against humanity.

1. Well I am a real Catholic and I am not "pro abortion."
I have never tried to talk a pregnant woman into having an abortion, just for the hell of it. I am pro choice which means I support whatever decision a woman makes. If a woman wants to have 8 kids, I support her choice. Don't you just love the way they have twisted "pro choice" into "pro abortion" as if pro choice people try and talk people who want babies into aborting them? :grr:

12. I Can't Imagine There Is A Single Person Living On This Planet......
...That Is Pro-Abortion. Certainly Pro-Choice And That Is Far Different Than The Former.

19. I take your point. But that was how the strip read and
unfortunately how the rw has been able to frame the issue.

2. Abortion seems to be their only issue,
that's why I gave up on the Catholic Church.

3. now-Pope Joey Ratz said in the 2004 election
that while abortion does go against church dogma, the emphasis was supposed to be that support for abortion should not be the deciding factor in supporting a candidate and that it is possible for Catholics to vote for pro-choice candidates.

11. Done. I was thinking of using mackerel snappers , but
thought it wasn't sufficiently serious. I have never taken it as a slur and would never use it as such since I would be slurring myself. But I am sorry to have given offense.

6. On Both of our cars...
...we have a Kerry/Edwards sticker and a decal that shows Jesus' hand with a nail through it that says "Body Piercing Saved My Life"

I'd just love a fundie to challenge me on it so I could show them that I know the Bible better than they do!

13. Had a preacher on DU once try to tell me
That Jesus would not have wanted us to "turn the other cheek" so much that we allowed enemy soldiers to kill us. I pointed out that that was exactly what Jesus had done himself, to the point of healing the soldier who came to arrest him when he was wounded by Jesus's own disciple.

I love arguing with fundies. They don't expect atheists to be armed and dangerous.

7. with this new jeb law "shoot if you feel threatened", please be careful
lest some rightwing nut feel threatened by your pulling in front of them etc ... and think that you are going to hurt them, and decide that they are going to shoot-no questions asked, as the law states.

take care!...and i understand your anger. i am darn angry to... just be careful with your reactions...these right wing people are demented.

17. I don't know if you are being silly or serious ...
...but I'm going the serious route ... "take care!...and i understand your anger. i am darn angry to... just be careful with your reactions...these right wing people are demented." Is right on target!

8. He wouldn't like my "The Road to Hell is Paved with Republicans"
sticker, then. Or my "Jesus was a liberal," or my "A Vote for Bush is Murder" sticker. No, I don't have them on my car because I'm not sure my tenuous hold on employment would survive them.

15. Baloney--I'll compare my brain (and I have the numbers to prove it)...
...against that of any skeptic.

You are free to believe as you wish, but please have the "intellect" and moral education to keep your derision to yourself.

BTW--the Good Shepherd is NOT the preacher, but Christ.

10. Real Catholics support a real culture of life, not an unholy pretense.
Real Catholics and people of faith understand voting for anyone instead of a person who honors the sanctity of each individual's relationship with God undermines true values of faith. They avoid how shallow, how immature, how holier than thou, and how wrong such reasoning is. Just making a law won't stop unnecessary abortion, believing so is just a feel good indulgence for manipulated people and lazy thinkers.
