And the book of Revelation wasn't about the distant future, but was just a political document about the first century Roman empire. Gosh, what a let-down. I thought it was supernatural prophecy being fulfilled in our lifetimes. :sarcasm:

The early Church Fathers, as well as Martin Luther, were never sure if Revelation belonged in the canon. It was included in the canon under the belief that the apostle St. John wrote it as well as the fourth gospel. But I gather scholars believe that Revelation dates to 90 or 100, a bit late for St. John to have written it. (It also is unlikely that John was the author of the fourth gospel. And St. Paul wrote 5 or maybe 7 of the 12 letters attributed to him in the New Testament. Oh well.)

And if any regime could recall those halcyon "bread and circuses" days of the Roman empire, this would be it.
