3. what I think would be good
is for this story to be blasted to news organizations in hopes that they descend on Waynesville and shine some light on these people, and that the excommunicated get numerous interviews. Let the preacher who refused to be interviewed by WLOS be hounded by the press.
Let the church members who clapped explain to cameras their lame POVs.
BTW, this is not all that far from Eric Rudolph's haunts.
Let the circus begin. ..fingers crossed..

IF we don't stay with this nearly obsessively, this is what the spin will be.

There are minions at the Heritage F already spinning it, no doubt about it (remember Falwell is on the board of directors, and I believe Robertson is too).

I have always taken a very moderate position when it comes to religion. But, with the Frist thing a few weeks ago, and now this, it's important to address. This is absolutely crazy. Insane. And for the pastor to claim that it wasn't politically motivated is absolutely insane and disingenuous.

I'm really disheartened by this. Those excommunicated for their political stance should fight back, and hard!

24. what I found notable
in watching the WLOS story, is that the ousted members when interviewed came off as very ordinary people. They are "neighbors", regular southern raised folks, the furthest thing in the world from the stereotyped wild eyed Massachusetts liberals.
Their short interviews were very effective.

35. I was born and raised in red states exclusively. My parents were active
in politics, and we knew every single Democrat in our small towns (small enough in most cases to have only one precinct).

The Democrats I grew up with were people like these good folk--churchgoing, rural (aften in farming), hardworking, NICE.

The Democrats need to work on really bringing them back into the party, and we need to exploit them to some degree.

I wonder, if in some wierd way, this could backfire to our advantage?

39. Yep. I've always thought one of the best things the DNC could do
is run a MASSIVE ad campaign showing REAL regular every day Dems (especially from the south and running the ads IN the south) just saying "I'm a Democrat." Tons of us, maybe twenty of us in each ad, just saying "I'm a Democrat." Short, simple and powerful.

Let the rest of the country see we look just like anyone else, we sound just like anyone else, we don't have horns or a tail. We're just regular people.

My entire family, for generations, has voted Dem. We were farmers and small business owners and teachers. And still are. :D Well, none of us are farmers anymore.

57. Thank you kindly ,
I have thought the same thing too (Howard...did you get that). I am from Texas and there are many yellow dog DEMS here (remember our first native Texas president was Johnson--Civil Rights Act, School Lunch program, etc).
I attend church every Sunday, read my bible daily, and tithe 10% of my gross. I never pass up a bake sale craft sale, fund raiser, etc that I don't donate. I believe that it is a woman's personal choice as to weither she has an abortion or not, and I will support her either way.
I know how to hunt and believe in the rights (AND responsibility) to gun onership-but think assualt weapons should be banned. I listen to Air America and get my news from PBS and DU and think Fox News is FOS.
I served my country (even though women weren't required) proudly in the USAR for 8 yrs total. I get spitting mad that my friends neighbors or their children that are in the military are treated with so little reguard.
I work hard since I was 16yo and pay my taxes. I'd rather die first than collect unemployement (but times were so tough one time I had to-6 months after I had used up my severance AND savings). I never begrudged FICA being taken out because it helped my grandparents and my widowed sister. I hope not to need it myself but sleep better at night knowing it's there.
I am a Democrate and I am your neighbor.

there were absolutly NO jobs and I discovered I could go without lights and heat but no food was a bit problematic (I had emptied my pantry and I kept at least 6 mos supply) and I was too proud to to go to a pantry . My mom gave me a real ass chewing for not telling her how bad it really was, but I figured I was a grown up and could handle it. Live and learn-I now have a diffrent perspective. When I see someone sturggling-I don't even ask. I am proactive and give first ask later.

29. So, in tough times the community divides into camps and
more and more strongly identify the concepts of US versus THEM.

An alarmist view of this Orwellian turn of events might be as follows...

Some might call it a symptom of totalitarian tyranny running loose. I'll just say it brings to my mind the religious based civil unrest of Northern Ireland.

Our new national ID card could easily accommodate voter registration information...complete with party affiliation. Then they won't have to rely on the shape our noses, color of our skin, or folding of our eyelids to find us. They will be able to query our ID's from a safe distance and then expel us from _their_ places of worship, deny us jobs in _their_ workplaces, put us into camps, or give us that nine mm brass token for the bus ride to eternal freedom.

42. Yes they've taken us all the way to the proposal of Christian Sharia
They are promoting in the United States a Christian version of the type of the wacko extremist fundamentalism that we feared was spreading through Islam at the time of the Fall of the Shah.

DeLay talks about Judges as though they must conform to some sort of Christian Sharia. And the proposed punishments he invokes for their failure to conform to his religious beliefs, guillotining and dismembering are clearly cruel and unusual.

History tells us the American colonies were not tolerant places. The first colony in Connecticut expelled colonists for not being true enough to the faith.

Now the radical religious right has taken the nation all the way back to conditions existing before the writing of the constitution, to a time of open religious persecution.

49. If churches get taxed, they'll probably leave of their own accord.

They've been skirting the IRS exemption for so long--Praise the Lord they've finally crossed the line. Now we'll see if there's any enforcement. If not, I'll bet there's a tax revolt.

This guy may be Baptist, but it looks like he's taking his cues from the new pope. Only the pope is smarter, if not less sleazy.

So the Catholics didn't want to give communion to Democrats and some Baptists want to expel them--either the IRS jumps in or somebody should give last rites to the seperation of church and state.

Liberals being kicked out of a Baptist Church is like Jesse Jackson being kicked out of a Klan meeting--except Jackson has sense enough to stay away from Klan meetings. I feel sorry for the people who got kicked out, but they should have known that they weren't welcome and left a long time ago.

64. haha! I called twice yesterday and left messages.
But I tried again just now and the phone rang about 20 times before I hung up. No more messages from outraged leftists!

Their number is 828.456.6841

Keep it up folks!:-)

71. Sickening
If I were these people, I would never darken their doors again in my life. What about the child down the street that is hungry and living in a tin shack? What about the single mother that works two jobs to put food on the table? What about the kid that is going to join a gang or turn to drugs if he isn't "reached?" The video states that 40 other church members have left in protest. Good for them!

This "minister" needs to get his priorities straight, now.
