A New Style in the DNC...complimentary to McAuliffe and Dean both.
I like this article most of the way through, though I differ with a little of it. It shows how important it is to not be divided as party now.

http://www.pulsejournal.com/news/content/shared/news/nation/stories/05/08_DEAN_DNC.html

"Dean, the political outsider in last year's field of Democratic White House hopefuls, is loosening the Beltway's noose on the Democratic Party to a degree that is surprising activists and party officials out in the states.

Just as he promised in his campaign for the DNC chairmanship, Dean has focused most of his attention on raising money for cash-strapped state parties and in recruiting candidates to challenge Republicans, even in GOP strongholds."

"It was the right hand-off at the right time," Jennifer Palmieri, a former DNC press secretary, said of the transition from McAuliffe to Dean. McAuliffe rebuilt the national party infrastructure, and Dean is using that infastructure to rebuild the state parties. Morever, Palmieri said, in Dean, the party has "someone who is ready to kick the table over and doesn't accept the premise that we have to play on the Republicans' turf."

Also Laura Gross, Howard Dean's spokesperson, points out that there were two styles of fundraising....that McAuliffe preferred large donor fundraisers. She says Dean is mostly interested in the internet fundraising and in tapping into the smaller donor base.

"It's a different approach than what's been done in the past," said Laura Gross, Dean's longtime spokesperson. In terms of style, "I don't think it's any secret that Governor Dean is pretty low-keyed on stuff that like," she added. Gross hastened to add, however, that since Dean took over as chairman of the DNC on Feb. 12, "we've been building on the success of Terry McAuliffe."END SNIP

This is not going to be an easy thing to do. It will threaten the big donor base who would lose influence if he succeeds. Dean has said that Democrats won't need as much money as Republicans....our overhead is lower. His goal is worthy, I wish him success.

Another quote: "Twenty days out of the month, he is on the road, his "Red, White and Blue" tour aimed at resurrecting party organizations in Republican strongholds...."

And of course the usual lecture to him about being nice to Republicans...by John Zogby.

1. It would be neat to meet Howard on the subway.
I always loved Howard's humbleness. Bush fakes it but Howard lives it.

2. I have mixed feelings about it.
It is nice that he has no interest in living a privileged lifestyle at our expense. The world is full of sickos, though, and we need him alive and well. All it would take is for some freeper to recognize him and decide to do a David Chapman.
