"The Threat Matrix" Premiering Tonight ABC! Propaganda from Admin?

Quote from ABC Site:http://abc.go.com/primetime/preview/2003-04/threatmatrix.html
Our nation is a target. Al-Qaeda and other deadly enemies are determined to destroy our way of life. An attack
could come at any time, from anywhere around the globe.

Against this rising threat, the Homeland Security Agency has created a highly specialized, elite task force trained
and equipped to counter anyone or anything that threatens our nation. The head of this super-secret team is
Special Agent John Kilmer. He reports only to the President and has authority to call upon the technical skills,
firepower, and specialist agents of the FBI, CIA and NSA.

Working with cutting-edge technology – and vast stores of chutzpah – this clandestine team fights the many faces of
terror to keep America safe. The one wrinkle in Kilmer's dream-team is his ex-wife, Frankie. She's as beautiful as
she is fearless and lethal. Together they've averted disasters of all kinds, except their marriage.

With stories ripped from headlines, Threat Matrix is a drama with a ticking clock in an arena as deep and complex
as today's world.

2. Oh, jeez...
I'm sure I wouldn't have watched this anyway, but it is certainly interesting to learn a bit more of why!

:wtf: is ABC doing, other than, as you write, providing propaganda from BushCo?

DISGUSTING - :grr: .

3. This is one of those really bad (worse than usual)tv shows
that comes along every few years and is aimed at juvenile minds. I suspect that it will be about as compelling as Battlestar Gallactica (I really loved this when I was 12), Seaquest or the A Team.

Real terror isn't enough for 'Threat Matrix'

Wednesday, September 10, 2003

Our nation is a target. Al-Qaeda and other deadly enemies are determined to
destroy our way of life. An attack could come at any time, from anywhere
around the globe.

I didn't write the previous paragraph. I could have, because it is nothing more
or less than three chilling statements of fact. Instead, someone at ABC wrote
it on the network's Web site to promote the Sept. 18 debut of "Threat
Matrix." I supposed we should be thankful they didn't debut it tomorrow
night, on the second anniversary of some 3,000 American deaths. Still, barely
two years after an unspeakably appalling tragedy we all agreed should go into
history as "the day that changed everything in Ameica," it is instead just the
impetus for another load of prime-time twaddle.

The Web site even contains several links to information about buying FBI
gear, including anti-terrorist squad T-shirts and even forensic wear. Very
tasteful. Let's pretend we're affected. Yeah, that'll show those terrorists.

"Threat Matrix," taken from the supposed name of a document assessing
updated threat levels shown to George Bush every morning, stars James
Denton and Kelly Rutherford, late of "Melrose Place," and
Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, probably because an early production meeting
included some observation like, "We need some dude with, like, one of those
long Muslim names."

6. And another (hilarious!) one from the Seattle Times...
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/television/2001733997_kay18.html

A cross between White House agitprop and third-rate thriller, "Threat Matrix" focuses on a team at the Department of Homeland Security. Yep, Tom Ridge has gotten a TV series just like the CIA and FBI.

That's about where the resemblance to reality ends. As with many series that feature government agency derring-do, the team at Homeland Security is so crackerjack, you'll wonder why we still haven't found Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden or WMD.

(...)

The acting is bad. The writing is bad. The photography is bad. The poorly staged action scenes materialize from nowhere. As the incoherent story line leaps from Washington to Jakarta to Chicago, "Threat Matrix" resembles 44 minutes of promos, not an actual TV series.

(...)

Instead, "Threat Matrix" is the most distressing example of poor communication and inept anti-terrorist operations since U.S. forces killed eight Iraqi police officers last week. Its producers should issue a similar apology. GRADE: F

11. Why shouldn't the Homeland Gestapo have a TV show?
After all, the original Gestapo had one, albeit belatedly: Hogan's Heroes. This one looks to be every bit as serious as Hogan's Heroes, though not nearly so well done.

7. In answer to your question, yes. But you have to remember that
TV is what it is because only losers watch much of it. People who are doing things and going places don't have time. That's why O'Lielly is a top rated show. Pure viewer stupidity.

The Neilson families watch Jerry Springer, Survivor and EliminaDate and pretty soon that's the only crap that's on. The one exception is The Simpsons, whose writers slide their inspired subversion in with the user-friendly everyman of Homer and Bart.

9. Ashcroft hasn't been to libraries yet.
Maybe the series could make up for that: "He reports only to the President and has authority to call upon the technical skills,
firepower, and specialist agents of the FBI, CIA and NSA, librarians nationwide." ;-)

10. Can't you just wait for the show when they go after Americans
It WILL happen. Of course, they'll all look like Mr. Van Driessen from Beavis and Butthead.

Sure, it's propaganda, "lifted right from the front pages".

15. Will there be anything about how WE destory THEIR way of life?
- How about something on the 700 or so military installations we have 'round the world? Or about our 'CIA' army that performs assassinations or other patriotic duties?

- Propaganda from 'Hollywood'?

16. Another fictional drama
In which the Bush administation cares about stopping terrorism and is genuinely concerned about the safety of American citizens. Of course, they are very competent...

To bad this only exists in bad movies and TV shows.

The amount of pure propaganda bullshit being put out now is downright scary.

Whats next? A show about the utopian society that we have established in the "new Iraq"?
