This post was prompted by a post from
Onlooker "Hopeful signs that progressives are uniting":
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=3614382#3614574In response to that post I had to mention what I'd seen Thursday night. And after thinking about it, I decided that I had to give my response its own post as a blanket "Thank You" to all who participated, from this site and others.
I witnessed something SPECTACULAR Thursday night.
And this is in no way self-congratulatory, because I had very little participation in the process.
It started as a tiny post from
libnnc regarding an email she'd received from her mom regarding a news report she'd seen stating that the East Waynesville church had excommunicated its democratic members.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.ph... It built up into a cry for links, because (what a concept) PROOF was needed of such unconscionable behavior.
There were members who checked in at other sites such as DKos to give them the heads up.
Several members chimed in stating that they'd witnessed the report. Several members combed the search engines and websites for internet links. Several members manned their television sets waiting for confirmation from the SCLM. The other sites went on alert and did the same.
Then the links went up. And the video from the actual report. When the links went up, that's when the action
really began.
Members from all the sites blasted the press with the story. Members emailed their congressmen and the IRS. Members called and e-mailed Mike Malloy (who happened to be broadcasting on Air America during all the action). Mike Malloy mentioned the story not two minutes later, then went further into depth after the break, which meant ALL of his listeners were now hearing what had started with a tiny email to JUST ONE MEMBER HERE. I can't help but believe that the story wouldn't have gotten the notice that it's getting now if it weren't for this kind of action and COOPERATION.
This excommunication story is chilling, but what followed from that one little post gave me chills.
Witnessing the way that unfolded gave me hope. And after seeing so many people roll up their sleeves to get the message out, I feel invigorated.
Thank you, DU. You're yet another reason why I'm proud to be a Democrat.
