How many people do you know who are working two jobs or more?
I was at the grocery store. The woman behind me gave me a tip about buying spinach at Sam's Club (:eyes:) cheaper than the local grocer. Then she and the cashier started talking. The woman who gave me the tip told the clerk she worked three jobs, the cashier said she works two jobs.

At work, staunch repug talks about family values, overtaxing, etc. But his wife works two jobs...so much for the family.

I've run into at least three people in the past month who work more than one job. (Let's not forget **'s fawning over the woman who told him she worked three jobs during a recent "town hall meeting.")

No wonder people aren't paying attention, they don't have time.

As for unemployment rates, well this gets to the heart of that. All those "new jobs" aren't going to the unemployed, they're going to people who are already working trying to make ends meet.

2. I used to work with a lady who worked two jobs.
We worked at a public accounting firm, so during tax season she would be working 60-70 (or more) hours a week. And then she had a part-time weekend job on top of that.

She proceeded one day to tell me how pompous and arrogant Democrats are and how she voted against Clinton twice because she "didn't like his wife."

Geez...what an idiot...

5. I know, they just don't get it...like the woman who told me to go to
Sam's Club. Unfortunately, I didn't take the time to educate her about Sam's and Walmart.

3. Quite a few.
In my hometown lots of people have two low-wage jobs, such as clerking at a gas station convenience store and working at a Hardee's.

Or maybe they have a $7 job at the hospital and a supplemental job at the gas station.

If they didn't have to pay for most or all of their health care they might be able to get by with just one.

Unemployment rates don't reflect those that have exhausted their unemplyment benefts. Once they're out, they're simply dropped from the list.

4. My neighbor works two jobs; a couple friends work two jobs.
I'm self-employed, and each year seems like I work "just a few more hours" each week to make ends meet. If I had children, I'd be going nuts with worry about being able to care for them.

6. My sister works 2 jobs and my mom, a school teacher takes a second
job during the summer months. During the school year, she takes on extra work at the school for more money like helping other teachers with student docs and tutoring.

7. At some point, people will come to their senses and recognize
that there has to be a balance between work and family--that they deserve both decent wages and time with their loved ones. Hopefully, they'll realize this and direct their attention to the White House where it belongs.

8. We have a couple of people at my plant with part time jobs
One woman cleans a bar every morning before coming to work. Two men have jobs at other factories, one of them full time for a while. A couple more people ther also have part time jobs. They all make between $9-$12/hour, which may be a living wage around here but isn't quite enough if other expenses come up.
When I first graduated from college and married, I had a full time temp job and a part time fast food job. There were a couple of other adults with full time jobs. One was working the part time job in order to finish paying off her mother's funeral and burial expenses. One young woman, who worked full time as a salaried manager (required unpaid overtime), also was a full time day care worker.
We are in debt, and I have considered a part time job. With the wages of part time jobs around here and the fact that I am tired from my full time job as it is though, I don't know if it would be worth it. At my full time job, I don't get paid if I call in sick. Being sick from fatigue by working too much would negate the amount of money that I made part time.

9. Good luck on your decision to work part time. I've done it before
and the wages are very low at a second job. But, if you have a specific debt to pay off or a goal to reach, then it's not so bad since you know it won't last forever.
