I need book suggestions, please?
I'm going back to school after a year off, and I wanna get my brain running again. Can anyone suggest any good novels to read? I am hoping for intellectual fare.

Thanks m8s!

4. A couple of suggestions
For historical fiction, I recommend anything by Mitchener.
For historical non-fiction, Zinn's "A People's History: 1492 to Present" is a favorite! Should be required reading for all Americans.

5. "Confessions of an Economic Hitman"

6. Like any 'book of lists" Harold Bloom's 'The Western Canon'
should be takn with many shakers of salt, especially by a DUer. Bloom is pretty conservative. Nevertheless, he points out a lot of literature that anyone who aspires to acquire a good education ought to be (or get) familiar with.

8. If you like books with a legal background, "Personal Injuries"
by Scott Turow. Actually, just about anything by Scott Turow, starting with his earlier novels.

Grisham isn't worthy to touch Turow's typewriter.

9. i love book threads. some of the current campus favorites include:
guns, germs, and steele, jared diamond
a people's history, howard zinn
fast food nation, eric schlosser
mountains beyond mountains, tracy kidder

if you've only had one year off, though, then you've probably already read most of these.
