Happy Mother's Day

posting my greetings early, as I plan to kiss myself goodnight very soon... I'm not a mom, (have 2 precious puppies though, who call me Mommy) but send felicitations to those who are.

is there anywhere in the world where there is a day set aside to celebrate those who are not parents? Just wondering. Seems only fair and equitable.

1. Thanks. :^) So you think there should be a happy not-parents' day?
What time of year should it be? :) I think August might be good. We could use an August holiday.

something like that?

9. I think it should be that 'roving kind' like the first Monday in August...
and I would like that to be a nationally recognized holiday, so everyone could have a 3-day weekend. However, I do see the implications involved in that, and would go with the 1st Sunday in August, to be fair to those celebrating Mother's Day. They don't get a long weekend (which Mother's truly deserve), but usually do get taken to brunch/lunch and get a card. I could work with that, as long as brunch/lunch is involved. Whadya think?

11. My mother, who was born in Yugoslavia, in what is now called Bosnia
followed her husband, my father, into this strange land called America. Her upbringing was that of a paisan, with rigid rules governing her life. One of those rules was that sacrificing anything for your family and children is a must. You do not even complain about it. In the years of struggle she shared with my father in this country, where she could not even speak English and deferred to my father, she sacrificed her considerable talents in violin playing to devote her time to raising her four children on the meager earnings of her husband. She succeeded in the only measure that she knew. How good her children turned out.

She passed away in 1993 at the ripe old age of 90.By that time she had seen her grandchildren graduate from medical schools and was able to witness the birth of her first great grandchild.

I will celebrate my mother's memory this day.She left me and my family a legacy of self abnegation and humility that endures to this day.

12. What a wonderful story!
Thank you so much for sharing. Your mother sounds like an extraordinary individual who did much for her family, and in return, it sounds like she was loved very much!

13. Thanks
My mother's day isn't starting off so swell....big tantrum first thing. At least Dad's taking care of it.

I also believe people without children should be honored. The world is way overpopulated. Those who don't contribute (willfully or not) should be given due credit.
