Best Mother's Day News EVER!
Dear DU,
Got a WONDERFUL phone call from my nephew today!
He and his wife, who some of you may remember I posted
about and thank you to those who sent her care packages,
are both in the army.
She has been in Iraq since January, and he had been in
Afghanistan prior to her deployment.
He is now in the states and they recently petitioned
the military for her to come back because of marriage
difficulties. Well, the army shipped her back in April
for a brief time. During her visit, they went about a serious
mission of impregnating her. IT WORKED! She will be sent
back home in the next few weeks.

They are planning an exodus should either of them be called
up again...this is huge, because both of them enlisted
and were proud to "serve their country" and took their
service VERY seriously UNTIL they realized what was
REALLY going on. They both want NOTHING to do with
the illegal invasion and occupation of other countries
for the benefit of the Bush cabal at this point-
The blinders are off and a baby is coming!
I am SO happy!

4. They are both willing to go to prison-
They REFUSE to be part of the war anymore-
they do not believe in the reasons for going to war
and that is HUGE for them.
They were total "patriots" about their service and
now are willing to go awol or do time as resisters.
QUITE a switch for them.
Let's hope their feelings are spreading among the other
young people who are being sacrificed to the war machine.
No soldiers= no war.

BTW I don't think the baby will keep her home for long though.

5. You have missed the point-
Their goal was to GET her home so that
they could both BAIL on the cluster-fuck that
is Iraq.
They have succeeded and WANT their baby.
They will make great parents, in CANADA or elsewhere.

12. Gee, aren't you a cheery soul?
Thanks for stomping all over my joy.
In case you are not aware, there is a
Quaker Underground in Canada for people
like my nephew and his wife- and yes, they will take them.
Illegally, but the point is, both my nephew and his wife
are willing to go to any lengths as so not to
participate in an unjustified war for Bush and his cronies.
Plus, I am looking forward to being an aunt.

Perhaps you could take Thumper's advice
and not say anything if you have nothing nice to say?
I am VERY happy with this turn of events and find your
comments on this thread to be antagonistic and
a piss on my parade.

18. BTW, here's my proof that Canada is kicking back America's refugees

As committed as the Quakers are I don't think they can circumvent Canadian law and keep your family members from being given the shaft in America.

Thanks for your thoughts, and don't

I understand very well-
Ever tried SAMe?
I have been on it for YEARS.
Has worked non-pharma cartel wonders
for me. I need large doses, but it has changed
my life.

I met you at Doug's DU party in Van Nuys in June of 2002. I remember you so well, I believe you brought your daughter with you to the party. I'm so glad for you on this Mother's Day!

7. Glad they finally realized
They weren't "serving their country", they were serving Halliburton. When it comes time for a Legal Defense Fund, don't forget DU.

8. AR 635-200 states a pregnant soldier can request a discharge
Edited on Sun May-08-05 04:37 PM by Solly Mack
This still applies under current conditions.

She needs to start the process now.

Get her out legally. It can be done. Then work on your nephew "relocating"

15. Thanks Solly Mack-
I will be sure to pass this along to them and
tell them to get the wheel in motion.
My nephew said he would break his
own leg before he would go back-
I know his wife will NOT go back with
a baby on the way.

19. She tells her command who will "counsel" her on her options
and then she has 7 days to decide. Then when she says "I'm out", they start the paperwork to give her an honorable discharge. She can also wait until near the birth date (30 days out, iirc) but I doubt she'll want to wait...

But ger her out legally. For the "just in case" of life, get one parent out legally-just a way to cover all your bases....and she's the easiest to get out since she's pregnant.

Best of luck to both!!!

16. My family's blinders are still on, so I can relate to your joy
My nephew and his wife are in the service and came home last month after a year and a half in Iraq. They both don't want to go back but are still willingly "serve their country" if called again.

So congratulations on your nephew's realization of how he and his wife are being used. And congratulations on the news of the coming birth of a new progressive to be.

22. I got out when I was pregnant
I was surprised to find out you aren't really "out" at that point. They put me in the inactive reserves, and called me up again when my daughter was two (just to go into the active reserves, not called up full time).

Just wanted to pass that along, so that your (and her) expectations are realistic. If nothing else, maybe I can save her from the ID card experience I had - my ID photo showed the shock of having the picture snapped about 2 minutes after I found out that my discharge wasn't really a discharge at all but rather a transfer to the reserves, combined with a good dose of morning sickness. I could have gone into battle with nothing but that photo and scared off the enemy.

I wish them the best of luck.
