1. Yeah I'll say.
Most soldiers can't swim. That's why they joined the Army in the first place.

4. It's amazing how the most outrageous things that people say the gov't
are believeable. Mostly because the gov't really has done some outrageous things.

7. All the recent ones, anyway.
USS Franklin (CV13) is the first one you could say was named for a politician... sort of.

The first one named for a President was USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CV-42)

9. Yaas...
The 'Tradition' (set by USS FDR and confirmed by USS JFK) was that Presidents who died in office had the next carrier named after them. It was broken by USS Ike, where they could claim that they named it after the General (It was a Nimitz class after all). But since the 1970's, ships have been named with an eye toward influencing congressmen. (Come on, why else would there be a ship named after John Stennis, a minor congressman... much less a one term mediocre President like GHW Bush?)

15. Since John Stennis...
was a congressman from Mississippi (or Alabama?), that's appropriate.

But a aircraft carrier?

11. You know what is scary. I had to open the thread just to check if...
it was real or not.

You know you're living in strange times, when something like that could seem possible. :P
