Stories about medical bureaucracy do not surprise me
Its been a long time since I've had to deal with it, but our medical system is not an easy thing to negotiate, insurance or not.

You have to be very aggressive at a time in your life when you least feel like it. It helps to have people who know the system, especially the specific institution that you are dealing with. And I'm not just thinking of the administrative end of it- just getting the proper diagnosis and treatment can be a heck of a lot of work, even when you have health insurance.
