Grenade Tossed At Stage With Bush & Doesn't Explode
Edited on Tue May-10-05 06:21 PM by cryingshame
Junior is certainly lucky.

On ABC's front page
http://abcnews.go.com/

A device, possibly a hand grenade, was thrown toward the stage on which President Bush addressed 300,000 cheering Georgians on Tuesday, but it was not discovered until after the president's appearance, NBC News has learned.

<snip>

The incident happened while the president was speaking in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi. The event was heavily secured, with agents keeping watch from rooftops.

According to U.S. law enforcement officials, someone threw a hand grenade that landed with 100 feet of the stage where the president was speaking.

Secret Service didn't see device
NBC’s Pete Williams, reporting from Washington, said none of the Secret Service agents accompanying the president saw the device. A Georgian security official working the crowd saw it, picked it up and took it away.

26. No it's not mainstream enough for me
It is corporate not mainstream. That doesn't mean the story is false, it just means that ABC does not represent the mainstream and we should not pretend that they do.

13. This was just announced on Lou Dobbs (CNN) LBN.
Saiad they are getting this from the Secret Service at the WH.

I can't find it on CNN yet, but they said while Shrub was on stage in Georgia, someone tossed a grenade. It came within 100 feet of the stage, and hit someone in the crowd. The Georgian security officials recognized it right away, and picked it up and took it away.

They supposedly notified the SS after Shrub had already left the country.

Well the good thing is that Tbilisi will not be the next Lidice. I shudder to think what would have been done to that place had a grenade killed the precious one.

Of course there's a memo floating around that the entire media is ignoring...

This grenade bit sounds like a Rove ploy to divert attention to more important things.

I'd like to see the footage...

So tell me, was it like this scene

with no Secret Service running around?

none of the Secret Service agents accompanying the president saw the device. A Georgian security official working the crowd saw it, picked it up and took it away.

"just picked it up and took it away" Uh-huh. ;)

22. If it is true, I'm sure glad the weapon didn't go off!
American troops are already spread very thin the way it is. Something like that might have touched off another war in an already very troubled part of the world. The fact that there have already been attacks against government officials, that have taken place just recently in the former USSR, makes me think that there might really be something to this story.

We live in some truly scary times.

25. When you have kids and grandkids who are draft aged kids...
it is terrifying. Our military is taxed to the limit now! Nobody did 18 or 24 month tours in Nam unless they asked for it! This morning a company of NGs left here headed for Iraq with orders for an 18 month tour of duty! Remember also that the DoD has been extending the tours of duty in Iraq by three months and more! So these soldiers and their families don't really know when they will get to come back home. It's just a bad situation. In some ways worse than Vietnam on the soldiers stationed in the Middle East.

27. Here's the AP:
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Secret Service was investigating a report Tuesday that a hand grenade was thrown at the stage during President Bush's speech in the former Soviet republic of Georgia.

After Bush left Georgia on Tuesday, the Secret Service was informed by Georgian authorities of a report that a device, possibly a hand grenade, had been thrown within 100 feet of the stage during Bush's speech, hit someone in the crowd and fell to the ground, Secret Service spokesman Jonathan Cherry said.

According to the report, a Georgian security officer picked up the device and removed it from the area. The Secret Service had not seen the device as of Tuesday evening, Cherry said. It has agents in Tbilisi working with the FBI, State Department and Georgian authorities to investigate the report.

Cherry said he couldn't characterize the source of the report.

28. Was it The Holy Hand Grenade???
Edited on Tue May-10-05 06:29 PM by elvisbear

Cleric: And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.
Brother Maynard: Amen.
All: Amen.
King Arthur: Right. One... two... five.
Galahad: Three, sir.
King Arthur: Three.
