Grenade Thrown at Bush in Georgia
Secret Service Say Device Did Not Go Off, No One Hurt

May 10, 2005 -- A grenade was thrown within 100 feet of the stage where President Bush was giving a speech today in the former Soviet republic of Georgia, local authorities told the U.S. Secret Service.

The device did not go off and no one was hurt, the Secret Service said.

Local police told the Secret Service the device was thrown as Bush spoke in Freedom Square in Tblisi, the Georgian capital. The device hit someone and fell to the ground about 100 feet away from the stage, the Secret Service said.

The Secret Service said it was unaware of any disturbance until it was informed of the incident by Georgian police.

1. Hmn. Just when there was a minor groundswell here over "the memo."
Hmn. Timing is everything, isn't it. No mystery which story MSM will be carrying for the rest of the week.

4. I doubt Putin is behind this at all
If Putin wanted George dead, he'd have left the country in a coffin. This was something else entirely.

6. Isn't it interesting that GWB has to go all the way to Tblisi...
...in order to speak before an unscreened crowd, and this (allegedly) happens.

Yet in his own country, he hides behind selected sycophants who are ID'ed and screened to ensure that they are true believers.

I wonder how Bush is at horseshoes?

8. At 100 feet he was in no danger
The maximum effective range of a fragmentaion grenade is 5 meters,
roughly 15 feet. Bush wasn't in any danger anyway, he still had 85 feet between him and where the grenade fell.

Besides, it seems to have been a dud anyway, just like the one on the stage.

And yet the Secret Service didn't notice anything until they were informed by Georgian police.

9. Funny, OxyRush didn't say anything about this today as
he was playing his clips of Bush's speech during which the mases idolized him.
