UNION MEMBERS: what's the water cooler talk today? (catch-all thread)
Edited on Wed May-11-05 09:31 AM by blondeatlast
UAL flight attendants are just this side of a major slowdown, rumblings of union unrest elsewhere in the transportation biz.

If you are union, you are going to be talking about this, I'm pretty certain (I used to be, my job disqualifies me now, but I'm 110% pro-union). I know how things go. I really want to know what's being said, and I suspect others on DU do as well.

It doesn't have to be anything major. Are they in support? Sympathy? Is there more unrest? Less? I just want a pulse reading, really.

Let's make DU the place to turn for what's happening.

BTW: for the latest news concerning the UAL flight attendants:

I just have an incredible feeling this is going to be the tide-turner.

1. Tide-Turner, Indeed
You know, that is my intuition, also ... this is going to have a ripple effect that will have major consequences.

And I understand that United is back in court to get ALL the union contracts thrown-out ... so they can dictate all current wages and benefits.

As a former UFCW member, my sympathy is with our union brothers and sisters. Frankly, I don't know how many of them could get up and go to work today. When, in contrast, I think of the million dollar salaries and benefit packages the United executives are getting ... it is depressing and angering.

I sure hope that the United unions (and maybe all the airline unions) decide to have a 'united' strategy to confront this assault on the take-home pay and retirements of thousands of good American workers. If this kind of corporate theft isn't stopped here ... it is my opinion that the screwing of the working class in this nation will accelerate until there is nothing left but the poor and the super rich, Republican elite.

In otherwords, the end of America.

3. at AT&T? The usual. Shoptalk, and downsizing.
...bitching about wires that just wont turn on, same ole, same ole....and... SBC is a good union company right? They are better than us. They have a better contract." Of course! They are soooooooo much different than any other corporate behemoth that's traded on the NYSE where layoffs mean higher stock prices. Your jobs are safe. Go ahead and buy that SUV.:eyes:

I had to shock them out of their stupor by screaming "AHHH! TERRORISTS! AHHH! WAHINGTON'S BEING EVACUATED! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!! ...Remain calm, go about your buisiness. The Office of Homeland Security will protect you. GO SHOPPING AND BUY DUCT TAPE!....AHHH!"... Most had no idea there was a UFO within 3 miles of the White House...and we have TVs on CNN 24X7. Most were talking about American Idol.
