Why would Congress vote to pass the Real ID?

I am baffled at the 99-0 vote over the Real ID. It seems to be nothing more than an open invitation to eliminate our rights as citizens.

Why would the Congress even remotely consider voting in favor of such legislation?

because it was tacked onto the $81B war bill, so you couldn't vote against it without having to hear "representative X doesn't support our troops, see he didn't vote for this very crucial piece of legislation that would have provided our troops the body-armor they so badly need." More RW BS

4. Because there is no point in getting 20 intelligence databases &

'watch lists' to talk to each other if you cannot count on the basic ID a person carries.

It either works, or it does not.
