I heard Rush actually said something intelligent...
"Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made. And that change would be to jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us and then watch how fast they would fix it."
compassion. This worries me.I don't believe them for a fuckin minuite. If they want to really save S.S. they should apoligize to Al Gore and ask him to run for pres. And not campaign agianst him.But I doubt this is going to happen.
Accept that Al Gore was right and try to enact some decent policies. Sure the SNL skits were funny as hell but let's face it had Gore or Clinton been given a chance to fix social security we wouldn't even be talking about it because it wouldn't be a problem.
Rush will probably be secretly rooting for the Dem in 2004...I'm sure he had much more fun when Clinton was president. Its probably hard even for him to keep talking up Chimpy McCokespoon.
...if it were simply means tested. Welfare is means tested. Food stamps are means tested. Student loans are means tested. Why not social security? Why not Medicare?
payout is tied almost directly to payin. Raise the pay in and it just goes back to those people as payout.
Change the exemptions that allow for full payout without full payin and youcould help some.
As has already been stated, stop stealing the so-called surplus and invest it wisely and that will largely address the coming shortfall. Thats why there is a surplus, the rates were set to help offset the boomer shortfall period. THe fact that Congress created the term "surplus" to make it seem like pennies from heaven only goes to show how vile they are.
