Has United Airlines paid any dividends to stockholders in recent years? If they paid dividends, and those payments in any way contributed to the bankruptcy and the inability to honor the pension obligations, there is a clear solution.

The United employees who are going to get cheated out of their pension funds should obtain a judgment against United Stockholders and force them to pay back all the dividends they have received over the past 5 years (plus interest of course) and then put that money into a fund to pay the pensions.

If my bank mistakenly sent me a check for a million dollars, and then it turned out that that money was not really mine, I would of course have to pay it back so it could go to it's rightful owner. And I think any funds of United that were "accidentally" paid to stockholders should have to be returned, so they can go to their rightful owners - the United employees.

1. I can't tell you if they have or not but I would lean to no
but even if they did you wont see that ever happening and there isn't a judge in the US whether Dem or Republican that would give that judgement. If they did the stock of United would plummet and they would be out of business so the employees would be doubly screwed.

3. It was more of a "discussion shifting trial balloon" than a suggestion
The Right has had tremendous success by having extreme rightists float ideas that are WAY to the right of anything that would ever happen...but in the process of discussing and dismissing them, the political center of gravity shifts to the right.

What was considered "right" is now considered "centrist". What was considered "centrist" is now considered "leftist, bordering on socialist".

The point is that the employees have a more valid claim on those funds than stockholders, and that it is irresponsible and immoral to pay stockholders when there are obligations to employees...Enron was the classic example of this type of immorality.

2. Dunno, but they give bosses bonuses
as does their subsidiary, Milage Plus, while cutting workers' pay

Go to http://www.untied.com site and see if there is info there. It is the site for employees to vent and blow whistles
