4. I think what they're trying to do...and we don't know what MSNBC's plans
are yet...is to get Countdown away from Nancy Grace at 8. Grace is whipping Countdown at that time. So I guess they're thinking of programming another "crime" show against Grace. And the later hours are better for the younger demographic, so I guess they're considering that. But we'll see.

And typically the West Coast watches the rerun anyway, which is at midnight EST and 9pm on the West coast. He typically does get better ratings on the west coast for the rerun.

12. I'm all over it -- here's mine
To Whom It May Concern:
I have just heard that MSNBC has hired Rita Cosby to host a new primetime daily show. I also know that Tucker Carlson has a new show coming on. What are you planning to do to make room for them? I have heard you are thinking about moving Countdown out of prime time. This is a very bad decision -- Keith Olbermann is doing better in the ratings than either Hardball or Scarborough and deserves to keep his timeslot. His is the best and most entertaining news show on TV today -- he is really fair and balanced and makes the news informative and fun. If you move him out of primetime, you will lose the audience he has built. The rumors say you may move him to 11, opposite The Daily Show and, on Fridays, Bill Maher. All three shows draw from the same audience and this would only hurt Keith's ratings even more.
Please keep Keith on at 8:00!!!

Sincerely,

Hello staff at MSNBC,

I love Countdown and watch it whenever I can. I don't get home from work early enough to watch network news or Jim Lehrer Newshour on public television, so I often find myself watching Keith Olbermann while eating dinner at 8:00. It is one of the best shows on cable television, news or otherwise.

If Countdown was on TV at 11pm, I would miss it because that is past my bedtime.

Thank you for your consideration, and good luck.

27. This may be their plan....(to get rid of him)
He is the ONLY non-rightwinger in their whole lineup... By pitting him against TDS, they can "justify" cancelling his show later..When netwoks want to cancel something, they always start moving it around, so that its regular audience cannot find it, and they rarely leave it in place anywhere to get a new audience.

I think "Keef" may have stepped on too many toes, and they are about to "Donahue" him:(

14. As Long As He Reruns...
Someone else posted they've been seeing a big promo blitz for KO, I have as well. You don't invest that kind of promotion to dump or bury a show. If anything, it could help it.

Unfortunately ratings have only slowly risen on this show and it's miles behind O'Reilly...despite his numbers dropping, and the same for Zahn. I'd rather they more the show to a less sensetive time and take the ratings pressure off that will allow these folks to continue to do the good work they're doing.

Let's see how things shake out at this network. The fact they're loading up their nights with kool-aid drinkers will surely keep my dial from going anywhere near that channel during those hours. Fortunately there's always something to watch on PBS, Discovery, History Channel, Discovery/Times, BBC or one of many other better offerings.

In Secaucus, speculation is building that new MSNBC hire Rita Cosby will anchor the 11pm time slot. Rick Kaplan discussed the possibility in a staff meeting this afternoon, TVNewser has learned. Under the schedule, Countdown would stay at 8, Tucker Carlson would host at 9, Scarborough would stay at 10, and Rita would conclude the evening.

37. To whom it may concern in charge of prime-time lineup:
To whom it may concern in charge of prime-time lineup:

I have wanted to write you for a long time about your prime-time
line-up. As a parent, I think that excessive coverage of the latest
crime against a child by a parent, a rock star or a madman , etc... is offensive during prime-time. These stories, while they deserve some coverage, are not happening in proportion to the amount of time that is devoted to them during prime-time when children may be within
earshot. Besides how scary these stories are for kids, the worst
reason to cover these issues during prime-time is that the really
important stories affecting our national security are being ignored
and/or distorted in an attempt at political balance (facts are facts and lies should be challenged).

My favorite primetime show is Countdown. I often arrange my schedule
and switch the channel to watch it at the Princeton University gym
where I work out. I like to expose the students to this excellent show
too - but, after Countdown is over, it's embarrassing to be the person
associated with changing to a channel that devotes the 9:00 hour to the latest unimportant news story.

Mainstream American parents like me and the smart students who work out at the Princeton University gym want the truth! If you want ratings, try spending all of your prime-time hour covering important stories that won't offend parents like me.

Here are a few stories that threaten our national security and deserve
hours of coverage. I guarantee that your ratings will soar just as they did when Keith Olbermann covered the aftermath (pun intended) of our election.

Doesn't their audience watch Fox News religiously anyway? I don't know why we have one right wing cable "news" station and then the other two "news" channels feel they ALSO have to be right wing to draw an audience.
