interesting and very discouraging.

RURAL PEOPLE: The Last Acceptable Stereotype?

A search on several other greeting card websites � Blue Mountain, 123greetings.com and Hallmark, for example � revealed no similar mockery of rural people. Still, rural advocates say the cards on supply at Yahoo! Greetings and AmericanGreetings.com are indicative of a larger problem.

"Poor rural people are about the only ones in the country that you can make fun of all you want to with near impunity," author and Appalachia activist Loyal Jones wrote in a 2003 op-ed.

"Political correctness fades away when the subject is a poor hillbilly. Therefore they make wonderful scapegoats."
