Dear Editor:
The recent Red Alert in Washington DC had people running away in all directions. President Bush was not informed of the Red Alert, but we have been assured by the White House that protocols had been followed.
Considering the multiple planes which were used on September 11 - doesn't it seem the protocols would have included informing the President? On May 12, several papers ran stories about how much explosives, chemical or biological materials a Cessna could carry and how much damage could have been inflicted. So why wasn't President Bush, our Commander and Chief, protector of our Homeland, NOT INFORMED?
according to Scott McCLELLAN: "Yes. I think you just brought up a very good point -- the protocols that were in place after Sept. 11 were followed. The president was never considered to be in danger because he was at an off-site location. The president has a tremendous amount of trust in his Secret Service detail. ..."
What about the rest of us? Certainly a RED ALERT - the highest color of Homeland Security Terrorist Alert coding - warranted letting President Bush know about it. Were they waiting for the plane to actually crash into something before interrupting his bike ride?
A recent article in the Washington Post highlights President Bush's level of concern and amusement for our safety:
'Protocols' Left Bush Out of the Loop

The president also tried to deflect concern about being out of the loop, telling an audience yesterday, with a grin, "I strongly urge you to exercise on a regular basis."
When the next REAL terrorist attack occurs -- will President Bush find it equally amusing? Will anyone bother to tell him about it?
